Experience Thanksgiving in Arizona with the Internet’s Beloved Accidental Friends—Here’s How

Occasionally, a story captures the news for all the right reasons. The heartwarming journey of Jamal Hinton and Wanda Dench is one of those tales, celebrated for its joyful conclusion that resonates with many of us.
Their paths crossed in 2016 when Hinton received a mistaken text invitation to Thanksgiving dinner from an unknown number. The message was from Dench, who intended it for her grandson but accidentally sent it to Hinton instead, who isn’t her grandson at all. They had never met before this amusing tech blunder.
Realizing the mix-up, Hinton texted Dench, asking, “Can I still grab a plate though?” She replied, “Absolutely... that’s what grandmas do... they feed everyone.”
They eventually met up, and their story went viral. Nearly a decade later, their friendship remains strong.
For anyone eager to discover more about their serendipitous meeting and enduring friendship, Hinton and Dench are co-hosting an early Thanksgiving dinner and Airbnb experience at Dench’s home in Prescott Valley, Arizona, roughly an hour and a half north of Phoenix and Scottsdale.

This one-night stay is scheduled for a few days prior to the actual Thanksgiving holiday—on Monday, November 20—and accommodates two guests in a private room at Dench’s home. They will share a Thanksgiving-inspired meal with Hinton and Dench, featuring some of their beloved traditions, including their annual selfie.
The Airbnb reservation will be available at 11 a.m. MST on Tuesday, November 14 (so be sure to mark your calendars if you want to secure a spot at their dinner table) and will only cost $16 (in tribute to the year Hinton and Dench first met).
