As you might already know, I’m always seeking ways to enhance my overall happiness. I often browse online articles titled “things that bring us joy” or “12 tips for a happier life.” Most suggestions are quite conventional: exercise, consume nutritious food, show kindness, get adequate sleep, and so forth. However, one piece of advice that frequently appears on these lists catches me off guard yet makes complete sense. That advice is to plan a vacation. The twist is that it’s not merely about embarking on the vacation (although that’s absolutely wonderful if you can), but the very act of planning a getaway has been shown to boost happiness levels. Isn’t that interesting?

I realize this may sound a bit unconventional, but I genuinely believe it. Last year, my friends and I went on a cruise. To coordinate everything, we needed to book our cruise nearly eight months ahead of time. Let me tell you, the excitement leading up to the cruise was nearly as exhilarating and enjoyable as the cruise itself. We constantly discussed the trip and even went shopping for new outfits. In the weeks before we set sail, I improved my diet, shed over 20 pounds, and felt like I was in the best shape of my life.

Come on, friends, tell me that expression doesn’t radiate pure joy!
For me, achieving a specific goal starts in my mind. If I believe strongly in something, desire it deeply, or persuade myself that something is achievable, there’s a solid chance it will come to fruition.

Over the past two years, largely due to my new career as a full-time blogger, I’ve had the chance to travel more than I ever have before. This summer, for various reasons, I chose to forgo personal and work-related travel. I had one major trip planned with my family to Ireland, and that was my sole focus. Normally, I adore summers in my hometown. However, now that September is here and summer is nearly over, I realize I may have made a mistake. I wish I had traveled more. I miss it. As much as I cherish central Pennsylvania, there are experiences here that I simply can’t find. (And I’m not just referring to Starbucks, Target, and relatively nice weather.)
Even though I have a few trips planned ahead, I decided to create a new Pinterest board titled “i TRAVEL.” I’m honestly surprised I hadn’t made this board before. As I shared while curating my Wanderlust Gallery Wall, I’ve collaborated with Dinogos to discuss travel, so having a travel-themed pinboard will be quite useful.

While I may not be able to visit every destination on my board, you can bet I’ll have a blast planning and dreaming about them. I also plan to save my money (like cutting back on buying gold and brass home decor—I think I have enough), and budget wisely for the vacations I aspire to take. It’s been said (by none other than Oprah) that people seldom regret spending money on a vacation. You’re not just investing in a trip; you’re investing in experiences and a lifetime of cherished memories.
