Fiji Has Simplified Entry for Vaccinated Travelers
Ah, Fiji. Just the name brings to mind stunning beaches kissed by turquoise waters, underwater wonders, lush jungles, and a friendly local community. Now, this tropical paradise is more accessible, provided you're vaccinated.
As of May 1, vaccinated international travelers (along with unvaccinated children under 16 traveling with them) are no longer required to show a predeparture COVID-19 PCR or rapid antigen test. Fiji officials specify that fully vaccinated means having the recommended initial doses—such as one Johnson & Johnson shot or two doses of Pfizer or Moderna—without the need for booster shots at this time.
However, this new guideline doesn’t mean testing is entirely off the table. All visitors aged 12 and older must schedule an in-country rapid antigen test before arriving in Fiji. This test should be done between 48 to 72 hours after landing. Additionally, travelers must obtain travel insurance that includes COVID-19 coverage. While many travel insurance providers now offer this, Fiji suggests opting for a policy with Fiji Care if yours doesn’t, as it covers expenses related to isolation, hospitalization, and further testing (excluding entry or exit tests).
Currently, unvaccinated individuals are not permitted to visit Fiji.
The 333 islands of the South Pacific nation of Fiji reopened to vaccinated international visitors on December 1, having been closed to tourists for over 600 days. From December 1 until May 1, travelers were required to present proof of a negative COVID-19 PCR test taken within 72 hours before departure, along with a post-arrival test.
Fiji Airways provides direct flights from various U.S. gateways to the islands. Additionally, Fiji has created a list of certified resorts, where all staff members have been vaccinated.
U.S. travelers should note that all international passengers aged two and older flying into the U.S. (including returning citizens and permanent residents) must show proof of a negative COVID-19 test taken within one day prior to boarding their flight to the United States.
