Get Ready for a Stay in Hobbiton from The Lord of the Rings—But Act Fast!
While one cannot simply walk into Mordor, fans of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit will soon have the chance to book an overnight stay at the original Hobbiton set.
Since 2002, visitors have been able to explore the set, located on a scenic 2,500-acre working farm in Matamata, Waikato, New Zealand. This will be the first opportunity for guests to stay overnight. Airbnb is providing this unique experience in the Shire to commemorate the 10th anniversary of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.

“For over twenty years, we’ve welcomed millions of enthusiastic fans to the Hobbiton Movie Set, but this is the first time anyone has had the chance to spend a night in Middle-earth,” said host Russel Alexander in a press release. “I’m thrilled to share the beauty of my family’s farm and to host this legendary location on Airbnb for fans from around the globe.”
Guests will enjoy access to 44 Hobbit Holes, the Millhouse (their accommodation), and the Green Dragon Inn, where an evening feast worthy of a Baggins or a Took awaits, featuring hearty beef and ale stew, whole roast chicken, freshly baked breads, and ample ale (plus Second Breakfast and Elevenses served daily). A private behind-the-scenes tour of the set will also be included.

How to reserve your stay in Hobbiton
Only three two-night stays are up for grabs, each priced at 10 New Zealand dollars (a little over US$6) to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the first film in The Hobbit trilogy. These unique experiences will occur on March 2–4, March 9–11, and March 16–18, 2023.
To secure a booking, eager guests must be ready on December 13 at 9 p.m. GMT when the listing goes live at airbnb.com/hobbiton. The maximum occupancy is four guests, with two bedrooms prepared for the stay, and those fortunate enough to snag this exclusive opportunity will need to arrange their own transport to Auckland, New Zealand (though round-trip vehicle transport will be provided for the two-hour journey between the airport and Hobbiton).
