Harry Potter casts his spell over Singapore Airport
It might seem surprising that an airport regularly crowned as the world's top destination would need additional enchantment, but Singapore's Changi Airport is calling on the magic of Harry Potter to draw more travelers in.
The Southeast Asian airport hub has unveiled full-sized replicas of iconic locations from the Harry Potter books and films, giving fans of J.K. Rowling's universe even more reasons to visit.
For those who aren't too tired from travel or overwhelmed by Pottermania, Terminal 3 features a charming Hogsmeade Village, complete with a Honeydukes candy shop, Madam Puddifoot's tea room, Zonko's joke shop, Owl Post, and even the Hogwarts Express train.
Elsewhere in Terminal 3, visitors can explore Diagon Alley, home to shops like Quality Quidditch Supplies and Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes.
Terminal 2 features the infamous Whomping Willow, while Newt Scamander’s Menagerie, inspired by the film 'Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald,' awaits in Terminal 1.
Quidditch challenges, Hogwarts costume dress-ups, and other themed activities make long layovers fly by—along with a little encouragement to shop, of course. And don’t forget to try saying 'Wingardium Leviosa'!
The 'Wizarding World Holiday at Changi' event kicked off on November 16 and will run through mid-February 2019.
For those not enamored with Harry Potter, Changi Airport offers a range of other attractions, including relaxing lounges, a butterfly garden, and an extensive selection of dining and shopping experiences.
Additionally, passengers with longer layovers can enjoy free city tours, making the wait more enjoyable.
In 2017, Singapore Changi Airport welcomed 62.2 million passengers and has been named the world’s best airport for six consecutive years by the prestigious Skytrax awards, with Asian airports dominating the rankings.
Lee Seow Hiang, Changi’s CEO, shared that the award 'inspires us to keep providing the best possible experience for all those traveling through Changi Airport.'
Things are set to get even more exciting when the new 'Jewel' terminal opens its doors in 2019.
This 10-story, donut-shaped building will feature a massive indoor waterfall and a lush rainforest at its core.
