Hilton Hotels Will Now Provide Housekeeping Only Upon Request

"Hello, housekeeping!"
That familiar call after a knock on the door is known to most travelers, but it will soon change at Hilton Hotels and Resorts. The company has announced that it will discontinue daily housekeeping services at its properties. This update was first reported by One Mile At A Time. Guests wishing to have their rooms cleaned can request service by calling the front desk.

On-demand housekeeping became a standard during the pandemic as contactless experiences became essential. Hilton is the first major hotel chain to make this policy a permanent fixture, as outlined in its press release regarding updates to the CleanStay program.
Hilton states, "To ensure your comfort, we aim to make your stay as uninterrupted as possible. Guests are welcome to customize their housekeeping services according to their preferences. To arrange this, just call the front desk."
A Hilton spokesperson shared with TPG, "We've found that guests appreciate the flexibility offered by on-demand housekeeping, and we’ve now adopted a flexible model as part of the ongoing development of Hilton CleanStay."
As travel resumes for many, the hotel chain is reinforcing its commitment to ensuring that its properties are safe and hygienic. Hilton has partnered with Reckitt, known for brands like Lysol & Dettol, to maintain stringent safety standards.
Naturally, all guest rooms at Hilton will be meticulously cleaned and sanitized between stays. However, the hotel will no longer use "cleaned and sealed" stickers on doors once the cleaning is complete.

It's important to note that the change to eliminate daily housekeeping only affects Hilton's non-luxury brands. Properties such as Waldorf-Astoria, LXR, and Conrad will continue to provide daily housekeeping, as will Hilton resorts in the Asia Pacific region.
While the decision to halt daily housekeeping might not concern many hotel guests—some of whom may prefer not to have their mornings disrupted by cleaning—this move could negatively affect hotel staff. The reduction in regular housekeeping is likely to result in job cuts. Additionally, there may be delays in how quickly housekeeping can respond to requests. It will be intriguing to see how this new policy influences Hilton properties and how the company addresses customer feedback.

Hilton also informed TPG that the changes would be adapted for different regions and brands:
"Recognizing that various regions are at different stages of recovery, we anticipate that some aspects will differ by area where appropriate. Hotels in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa will continue to offer housekeeping upon request, while properties in the Asia-Pacific region will still provide daily housekeeping. In the U.S., daily housekeeping can be requested through the front desk, and on the fifth day of an extended stay, the guest room will automatically receive a complete cleaning."
