Hilton is elevating its luxury offerings in Greece with a new hotel and branded residences.
Greece continues to impress, particularly for Hilton Honors members planning a trip to Athens.
It has been announced that the former Hilton Athens will be reimagined as The Ilisian, a multifunctional space featuring the Conrad Athens hotel, along with residences under the Conrad and Waldorf Astoria brands, as well as various dining and entertainment options.
Located in the Ilisia neighborhood of Athens, just east of major landmarks like the Acropolis, The Ilisian aims to fuse modern international design with the city's rich heritage, creating a hub for both locals and tourists, as stated by Ionian Hotel Enterprises.
THE ILISIANPrior to its current renovation, the historic structure operated as the Hilton Athens, a landmark that introduced Greece to the global luxury tourism scene. At its grand opening in 1963, the event was attended by then-first lady Jacqueline Kennedy.
Now, 61 years later, the building will remain part of the Hilton family, emphasizing the company's luxury brand focus. The Conrad Athens will feature 278 rooms and suites, along with dedicated conference and event facilities. It will also offer 55 serviced residences branded as Conrad Residences Athens, The Ilisian and Waldorf Astoria Athens, The Ilisian.
The integrated hotel and residences complex will boast Athens' largest pool area, a rooftop garden, and outdoor sports facilities.
Opposite The Ilisian, guests will find 10 bars, restaurants, and lounges, including a modern interpretation of the iconic Galaxy Bar, now named The Galaxy Dispensary and The Galaxy Supper Club on the top floor. There will also be a reimagined version of the beloved Athens restaurant The Byzantino, offering Greek-French fusion dishes, alongside a Japanese restaurant, a lobby bar, a poolside dining venue, and more.
THE ILISIANThe Ilisian will feature a membership club reminiscent of Soho House, providing members access to lounge areas, workspaces, a gym, and both indoor and outdoor pools, along with entertainment and club events.
The wellness facilities at this multi-brand property will include pickleball courts, a running track, specialized training studios, and a wellness clinic and spa offering a variety of treatments, from acupuncture to aesthetic services.
This comprehensive community concept will even encompass a retail complex, centered around a curated concept store showcasing fashion, art, and design, including luxury items that are currently unavailable in the country.
Throughout the renovation and construction of The Ilisian, public art installations will adorn the building's exterior, celebrating its historic significance, local street art, and works by emerging Greek artists, among other themes.
At the event unveiling The Ilisian, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis emphasized that the property will bridge Athens' rich history with its promising future, stating, "Its modern operation will once again, in its own way, become part of the new image of a country that has new and great horizons."
The Ilisian is slated to open its doors next year.
