Holland America is launching another incredible cruise — this time with a unique twist.

Holland America presents an exciting new itinerary from North America to Europe and back — now featuring a special twist.
The Seattle-based cruise line announced on Monday that the 35-night round-trip journey from Boston will visit some of Northern Europe's most captivating destinations, including a viewing of the solar eclipse scheduled for August 2026.
Named the Voyage of the Vikings, this sailing will occur on Holland America's 1,964-passenger Zuiderdam, giving North American travelers the opportunity to explore Viking history in places like Greenland, Iceland, and Norway without needing a transatlantic flight.
The voyage is set to begin in Boston on July 18, 2026, with a journey up the North American coast that initially mirrors a New England and Canada cruise. The first stops will be in Portland, Maine, and Sydney, Nova Scotia.

However, the stop in Sydney will only be the beginning of an extensive exploration of Eastern Canada's coastline, featuring four ports in Newfoundland and Labrador — Corner Brook, Red Bay, St. Anthony, and St. John's — along with Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Some stops in Canada will occur as the ship sails toward Europe, while others will take place during the return journey.
Following its initial visit to the Canadian shores, Zuiderdam will head east across the North Atlantic for a multi-week journey to Greenland, Iceland, Norway, the Netherlands, Ireland, and Northern Ireland.

Stops in Greenland will feature Paamiut (Frederikshab), Nanortalik, and Qaqortoq (Julianehab).
The itinerary in Iceland will include Reykjavik (where the ship will remain overnight), Seydisfjordur, Husavík, and Grundarfjordur.
Additional destinations during the voyage will be Eidfjord in Norway; Rotterdam in the Netherlands (for an overnight stay); Dún Laoghaire, County Dublin, Ireland; and Belfast in Northern Ireland.
The solar eclipse will take place as the ship sails off the western coast of Iceland near Grundarfjordur.
The journey will conclude back in Boston on August 22, 2026.
The new Voyage of the Vikings cruise is one of three Holland America sailings that will provide the opportunity to witness the solar eclipse in 2026. The others include:
- A 28-night Scandinavian Solar Eclipse voyage aboard the 2,666-passenger Nieuw Statendam departing from Dover, England, starting July 26, 2026.
- A 13-night Mediterranean Solar Eclipse voyage on the 1,964-passenger Oosterdam departing from Lisbon, beginning August 9, 2026.
The extended Voyage of the Vikings cruise is the latest offering from Holland America, allowing travelers to journey from North America to Europe and back without stepping onto a transatlantic flight — a unique specialty of the brand.
Earlier this year, the cruise line revealed plans for a 45-night journey from North America to the Mediterranean and back, reminiscent of an ambitious voyage they offered in 1925. This sailing is set to commence on October 7, 2025.
This extensive Mediterranean voyage marks the second such addition to the line's schedule in the past two years. Additionally, the line is preparing a 42-night journey from the U.S. to the Mediterranean in November.

The two Mediterranean cruises will set sail from New York and Fort Lauderdale, respectively.
The recently unveiled Northern Europe itinerary is the latest addition to a series of Legendary Voyages that Holland America began revealing in 2023. These extended sailings, scheduled over the next three years, concentrate on a specific region and last between 25 to 59 nights, incorporating special programming.
The original roster of Legendary Voyages features both familiar routes and brand-new ones — including an exciting itinerary centered on Japan, planned for later this year, lasting over 50 days.
Typically, these voyages highlight distant destinations — such as Australia and New Zealand, the Amazon and South America, the South Pacific and Hawaii, Greenland and Iceland, Asia, and Alaska and the Arctic Circle. Interestingly, most sailings are crafted to start and finish in a North American port, allowing passengers to explore far-off places without the need for international flights.
The new series of extended journeys aims to enhance Holland America's renowned selection of even longer Grand Voyages — extensive, often globe-trotting cruises that usually last 70 nights or more.
Holland America has a long-standing reputation for offering extended voyages from U.S. ports, connecting travelers to remote destinations worldwide. The introduction of the Legendary Voyages and an expanded selection of other long cruises reflects the line's commitment to such journeys.
Prices for the newly announced Voyage of the Vikings begin at $7,809 per person. For more details, visit Holland America's website.
