Introducing Explora Journeys - A New Luxury Cruise Line from MSC Set to Launch in 2023
Get ready to don your tuxedo and grab that passport! Today, exciting details about the world’s latest cruise line, Explora Journeys, were unveiled, promising to transport travelers to the farthest reaches of the globe in lavish comfort.
The new company plans to debut its first of four ships in 2023, the Explora I, which will visit renowned destinations such as the South of France and Iceland, as well as hidden gems like Bozcaada, Turkey; Kastellorizo, Greece; and the Lofoten Islands in Norway.

Though the Explora Journeys brand is new, it boasts a rich maritime heritage that spans centuries. It is part of MSC, a family-run cruise and shipping conglomerate that traces its roots back to 1675. Today, it’s well-known among travelers for its larger, crowd-friendly ships like the MSC Meraviglia, which will depart from Miami starting in August.
While Explora shares some maritime lineage with its sister brand, its new vessels will offer something completely different, as stated by the company.
"My family and I have long envisioned creating a luxury brand that will transform the cruise experience and establish a unique category," stated Pierfrancesco Vago, executive chairman of MSC Group.

These ships will offer 461 guest suites, all with private terraces; nine dining options; an expansive indoor-outdoor spa and fitness center; four swimming pools, including an indoor pool with a retractable roof; and 64 private cabanas for sun-soaking.

The ships will incorporate various technologies designed to minimize their environmental footprint, including provisions for battery storage to enable future hybrid power generation. They will also utilize state-of-the-art scrubbers to lower nitrogen oxide emissions and shore power systems to decrease CO2 emissions.
While details about dining options, destinations, and—crucially—pricing remain under wraps, Explora aims to make an impact not only on cruisers but also across the travel industry, according to Michael Ungerer, CEO of the cruise line.
"Explora Journeys will offer a fresh outlook on the travel industry by redefining the traditional cruise experience for the next generation of luxury travelers," Ungerer remarked.
