JetBlue’s Carry-On Size Guidelines
What is JetBlue’s policy on carry-on luggage?
The carry-on policy for JetBlue travelers varies based on the fare type. Passengers with Blue, Blue Plus, Blue Extra, and Mint fares are allowed one carry-on bag and one personal item on board.
Carry-on bag | Personal item | |
---|---|---|
Max dimensions | 22 x 14 x 9 inches (56 cm X 36 cm X 23 cm) | 17 x 13 x 8 inches (43.2 x 33 x 20.32 cm) |
Max weight | Not specified | Not specified |
Allowance | 1 carry-on bag* (only for selected fares and loyalty programs) | 1 personal item (fee free for all fares) |
Passengers with Blue Basic fares may bring a personal item. A carry-on bag is permitted only under specific circumstances, as exceptions.
- If traveling to or from the UK or Europe (including connecting flights);
- If they book a Blue Basic fare along with an Even More Space seat;
- If they are US military personnel or unaccompanied minors.
Travelers may also bring a carry-on bag if they are Mosaic members of JetBlue’s loyalty program.
JetBlue’s carry-on size limit is 22 x 14 x 9 inches (55.88 x 35.56 x 22.86 cm). The carry-on luggage must fit in the overhead bin.
Personal items should not exceed 17 x 13 x 8 inches (43.2 x 33 x 20.32 cm) and must fit under your seat.
JetBlue does not impose weight limits on carry-on or personal items. You may board with your carry-on as long as you can lift it into the overhead compartment without assistance.
🧳 Tip: Accurately measure your luggage using Dinogo’s convenient Bag Measurement tool available in the mobile app, and check out packing tips for carry-ons.
What extra items are permitted on board?
You can bring additional items as long as they comply with JetBlue’s carry-on size regulations. This includes, but isn’t limited to:
- musical instruments,
- tripods and selfie sticks,
- and equipment like cameras or recording devices.
You are also permitted to bring sports equipment, as long as it weighs under 99 pounds (45 kg). Larger items like bikes, surfboards, and windsurfing gear can be checked in as baggage, subject to a per-item fee.
When traveling with an infant, you can bring a child car seat, a diaper bag, or a stroller. Additionally, individuals with disabilities may bring their assistive devices at no additional charge.
Travelers are allowed to carry one quart-sized bag of liquids or gels in containers that are 3.4 ounces (100 ml) or less.
How stringent is JetBlue with its carry-on size regulations?
JetBlue enforces its carry-on luggage policies rigorously. If your bag fails to meet the specified size requirements, you may incur additional fees.
Is a backpack regarded as a personal item on a JetBlue flight?
Yes, a backpack qualifies as a personal item as long as its dimensions do not exceed 17 x 13 x 8 inches. Other items that are considered personal include purses, briefcases, laptop bags, crossbody bags, and totes, provided they fit under your seat.
Can I take both a backpack and a carry-on on a JetBlue flight?
Yes, as long as the backpack is small and you’re not on the Blue Basic fare type, which prohibits carry-on bags. Small backpacks are classified as personal items.
