Kimpton's inaugural all-inclusive resort is now open for bookings — and it's an excellent deal with points

For several years, TPG has been enthusiastically proclaiming that a renaissance in all-inclusive resorts was on the horizon, with more beloved brands venturing into this realm soon.
That moment has arrived. At least for IHG, as they begin taking reservations for the first-ever Kimpton all-inclusive resort, the Kimpton Tres Rios located on Mexico's Riviera Maya.
If everything goes as planned, the 355-room resort is set to welcome guests starting mid-March, as indicated by the booking calendar now open for reservations. Rates for double occupancy begin at $499 or 86,000 IHG One Rewards points per night for a basic mangrove-view room.

Currently, booking a Kimpton all-inclusive getaway using IHG One Rewards points is a fantastic deal at 86,000 points (compared to a cash rate of $499 per night), which includes all taxes and fees. Using points gives you approximately 0.6 cents per point, slightly exceeding TPG's September 2024 valuation of IHG One Rewards points at 0.5 cents each.
This property is poised to exemplify future all-inclusive resorts under the Kimpton or IHG banners, and we're eager to see how the boutique hotel brand adapts to the all-inclusive model. The resort isn't a new construction; it’s a transformation of a facility built in 2008 that is receiving a comprehensive renovation.
When it opens, the resort will offer 20 distinct accommodation options, including adults-only suites, swim-out suites, and rooms featuring ocean views and plunge pools, all equipped with fully stocked minibars, 24-hour room service, and contemporary designs.

At the Playa Hotels & Resorts-managed property, guests can enjoy four swimming pools, the Kej Spa featuring signature treatments, a sprawling 340-acre nature park with hiking trails, beaches perfect for snorkeling, and a plethora of entertainment options including dance classes, cooking lessons, and Spanish courses.
For younger visitors, there’s a kids club, a special splash zone, and waterslides.
When it comes to dining at this all-inclusive resort, there are seven restaurants and five bars serving a variety of international cuisines. Raices offers Kimpton's version of the classic all-inclusive buffet, Sabina specializes in traditional Mexican dishes complemented by a mezcal bar, Bacetto presents rustic Italian cuisine, and Kotori focuses on Asian fusion. Additional options include Mediterranean, classic steakhouse fare, and Mexican street food.
The resort also features an all-day coffee bar for caffeine enthusiasts, a stylish sports bar, an adults-only rooftop bar, a sophisticated main lobby bar, and a poolside bar.

Although we still need to experience what a Kimpton all-inclusive resort truly offers, it’s noteworthy that Playa Hotels & Resorts manages some of our favorite all-inclusive destinations, such as the luxurious Hyatt Ziva and Hyatt Zilara resorts in the Dominican Republic. Additionally, Kimpton is well-acquainted with resort concepts, boasting beachfront properties from Roatan in Honduras to Grand Cayman in the Cayman Islands.
