Nairobi’s 12 Most Exciting New Dining Spots
Today, Dinogo focuses on Nairobi, Kenya’s vibrant capital, where the restaurant scene has undergone a remarkable transformation in recent years. From street vendors to luxury dining, Dinogoies are diverse and dynamic. We’ve consulted local food critic Soni Adriance for her recommendations on the city’s trendiest new openings from the past year.
“Nairobi’s flourishing dining scene mirrors the city’s expanding middle class and economy,” Adriance notes. “Some recent openings have been notably successful, introducing previously unavailable options like a dedicated vegan Mytoury (Boho Dinogoy) and several new Mexican restaurants (Fonda, Taco 254).”

Fonda
Nairobi has recently welcomed four new Mexican restaurants, eagerly anticipated by fans of tacos and tequila. Fonda NBO has quickly become the highlight among them, thanks to its genuine dedication to authenticity. The décor, inspired by the owners’ trip to Mexico City, features vibrant yellow, cobalt blue, and earthy red hues. The menu boasts fresh Mexican ingredients like avocados, corn flour, and black beans, all sourced locally, while the drink menu includes over 50 varieties of agave-based margaritas.
Taco 254
Another exciting newcomer to Nairobi’s Mexican dining scene, this food stall in the Village Market mall food court is dedicated to tacos. Arrive early, as they sell out quickly, and enjoy three tacos of your choice for $7.50. The menu includes one vegan option and traditional fillings like chicken, pork, fish, beef, and goat. The highlight is the salsa bar with over 10 spicy varieties, paired with classic margaritas and local craft pale ale on tap.
Sigiria Cafe
Nestled at the gateway to Karura Forest, this outdoor café is an ideal stop before or after your hike. Sigiria offers a variety of refreshments, including smoothies, juices, and coffee, alongside freshly baked cookies and light snacks to savor on the patio.
Sierra: Burger + Wine
Situated at its new spot off Brookside Drive, Sierra aims to capture a chic, New York-style vibe. Patrons can enjoy award-winning South African wines and craft brews from Sierra’s microbrewery on a cozy balcony under the afternoon sun. Inside, the ambiance is set with leather seating and warm, dim lighting. The burgers are crafted from Angus beef sourced from the slopes of Mount Kenya and aged in the restaurant's own butchery. On select Tuesdays, the intimate Kitchen Table offers a five-course tasting experience paired with selections from their boutique wine shop.
Mama Rocks Kilimani
The renowned Mama Rocks food truck has now set up a semi-permanent spot in Kilimani, offering an expanded menu. This vibrant new location, crafted from shipping containers adorned with African-inspired art, serves additional burgers, irresistible sweet potato fries, and distinctive cocktails. Despite its compact size, the venue often features live music, so arriving early on busy nights is a good idea to secure a booth or share a high table with friends.
Bao Box
Bao Box, although labeled as a cafe, truly shines as a board game haven. For $10, you can select from a vast array of games to enjoy at your table for as long as you like. The food takes a backseat, but patrons can still savor a cold beer or a glass of wine on one of the large, colorful couches on the spacious balcony. Check their Instagram for updates on quiz nights and other special events.
La Tasca
With its cozy ambiance enhanced by exposed light bulbs hanging from the ceiling, this Spanish wine bar exudes charm and intimacy for up to 40 guests. Maurizio, one of the founders, warmly greets diners with a complimentary glass of sangria and has a knack for remembering returning guests. The space features wine bottles used as decor on tall shelves, and the menu is filled with traditional Spanish tapas.
Gyros 2 Go
Imagine warm, fluffy flatbread wrapping around juicy, spit-roasted chicken or lamb, topped with creamy hummus, smoky baba ghanoush, and crisp pickles. That's what Gyros 2 Go offers: a fast-casual Mytoury serving up fresh, healthy lunches made from scratch daily with locally sourced ingredients. The menu is straightforward, featuring Middle Eastern classics that are both simple and satisfying.
Silk Noodles
Tucked away behind a fast-food chicken spot and nestled between a Chinese grocery store and a nail salon, this hidden gem offers Northern Chinese noodles in a cozy, unassuming setting. Despite its modest exterior, the menu—mostly in Chinese but with helpful images—features hand-tossed noodles prepared by a skilled chef. Indulge in the flavorful beef noodle or braised beef noodle while sharing one of five large wooden tables with fellow diners. Expect a satisfying meal and drink for about $10.

Brunch on Sundays is a highlight, offering a meal and drink for $10. Note that payments are accepted only in cash or via MPESA, Kenya's mobile money service.
La Cantina
La Cantina, launched by the renowned Italian chef Dario and his wife Judy, brings a touch of Italy to Nairobi. The restaurant's warm, rustic ambiance features wooden tables, dark red cushions, and checkered napkins, echoing the charm of a quaint Italian Mytoury. Their menu, rich with handmade pizzas and pastas, completes the authentic experience. Don’t miss out on the tiramisu—it’s a must-try!
Boho Dinogoy
Situated about 40 minutes from the city in a serene suburb, this converted residence offers a unique vegan dining experience.
