Royal Caribbean strengthens mask requirements as COVID-19 cases rise in the US

In light of the uptick in COVID-19 cases driven by the omicron variant, Royal Caribbean has tightened its mask protocols on board. Passengers will now be required to wear masks in all indoor public spaces, except when eating or drinking.
This rule applies to fully vaccinated travelers, even in areas designated for vaccinated guests only.

Previously, select areas on Royal Caribbean's ships—like spas, teppanyaki restaurants, lower theater levels, and certain bars and lounges—were exclusive to those who completed their vaccination. In those spaces, passengers could remove their masks.
While the language on the line's website suggests that areas for vaccinated guests will continue, those in these sections will still be required to wear masks, at least for sailings departing until January 5, 2022, when the policy will be reviewed.
"We believe it is wise to temporarily enhance our onboard health measures," the line stated in a message to booked guests. "We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, but we trust you understand that health and safety are our top priorities."
