Ryanair updates its hand luggage policies once again
Ryanair passengers must now adjust to a fresh set of baggage rules.
The Dublin-based carrier revised its baggage guidelines for the second time this year, aiming to reduce delays.
In a statement on Ryanair's website, the airline announced that passengers will now be charged for bringing a small suitcase on board.
Under the previous rules from January, passengers without priority boarding could bring a “personal item” like a handbag into the cabin, while a small suitcase could be checked into the hold at no extra cost.
However, departures were delayed as up to 120 bags were checked in per flight at the airport, according to the UK's Press Association.
In response, Ryanair has opted to cancel its free hold baggage policy.
Passengers who buy priority boarding will still be allowed to bring both a “personal item” and a small suitcase onto the aircraft.
Ryanair states that the new policy will not impact many of its customers, with 30% purchasing priority boarding and another 30% only bringing a “personal item,” according to PA reports.
Passengers with additional luggage can still choose to pay €25 for up to 20kg, the same cost as the lowest check-in bag option under the previous policy.
“The main advantages of this updated policy include fewer flight delays and a more affordable checked baggage option. Pack more liquids in a 10kg checked wheelie bag and breeze through to the boarding gate ‘hands-free,’” according to the Ryanair statement.
