Southwest Airlines passengers can now receive a COVID-19 test kit by mail before their trip.

If you've traveled internationally in the past year, you're likely aware of the requirement for travelers to present proof of a negative COVID-19 test taken the day before returning to the U.S.

Sadly, securing a COVID-19 test abroad has been challenging in certain countries lately, partly due to the omicron surge and the shortened testing window for re-entering the U.S.

However, Southwest Airlines appears to have discovered a simpler solution for travelers: sending a test kit directly to your home.

The Dallas-based airline has announced a collaboration with testing provider CityHealth to send COVID-19 tests to international travelers. The test is approved by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for travel. Typically priced at $75, Southwest passengers can secure a reduced rate of $50 per test.

"The RapidReturn kit has quickly become one of our top choices for [COVID-19] testing since its launch," said Sean Parkin, CEO of CityHealth, in a statement. "We are excited to partner with Southwest Airlines to provide passengers with a simple, accurate, and cost-effective way to return home safely. The swift results will help ensure that Southwest travelers adhere to the new one-day testing requirement."

Travelers can conveniently order their RapidReturn test kit via the CityHealth website. Kits are dispatched from Monday to Friday, between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. PST, with any orders after 3 p.m. PST on Friday being sent out the following Monday. Therefore, if you have a weekend trip coming up, it's advisable to place your order early in the week.

As per the company, travelers can pack their test kits ahead of time and utilize a secure portal when it's testing time. Results will be accessible in the portal and are valid for flights returning to the U.S.

The CDC recognizes several at-home tests for inbound passengers, including Abbott's BinaxNow COVID-19 Home Test and Qured's video-supervised rapid antigen test. There are other at-home testing options available if you require a COVID-19 test for your flight back to the U.S. Just ensure you order your test with ample time for delivery.
