Southwest Sale Features Flights to Hawai‘i and Puerto Rico Starting at $45 Each Way

If soaring fuel costs and escalating airfares have held you back from planning your next trip, Southwest Airlines is here to help. The airline has launched an appealing flash sale, offering one-way tickets starting at just $45—but you'll need to act quickly to secure your seat.
This sale is available until 11:59 p.m. Central Time on May 26 for travel occurring between August 16 and November 5. The offer includes flights within the U.S. (including Hawai‘i and Puerto Rico) as well as international destinations such as Puerto Vallarta and Cancun, Mexico; Nassau, Bahamas; Havana, Cuba; San Jose and Liberia, Costa Rica, among others across the Caribbean and Central America.
Some of the best deals are found on inter-island flights in Hawai‘i—routes such as from Honolulu on Oʻahu to Kona on the Big Island, and from Kahului on Maui to Lihue on Kaua‘i, with one-way fares starting at $45 in the Wanna Get Away fare class (Southwest’s most economical and popular option).
Across the continental United States, numerous flights are available for under $150 each way, including routes like Los Angeles to Las Vegas ($81 one-way), Baltimore to Miami ($99 one-way), and Minneapolis to Nashville ($110 one-way).
For international travelers, Fort Lauderdale offers some of the best rates. From this hub, you can fly to Havana, Cuba, for $150 one-way, and Nassau, Bahamas, for $80 one-way. Flights to San Juan, Puerto Rico, are priced at $227.
Keep in mind that discounted fares are not available from September 1 to 5, coinciding with Labor Day weekend, as well as on most Fridays and Sundays (within the continental U.S.). To popular destinations like Miami, Las Vegas, and Savannah, outbound travel must be scheduled from Sunday to Wednesday, with returns required from Monday to Thursday.
When flying to Hawai‘i from the mainland U.S., deals are only available Sunday through Wednesday, with return flights set for Tuesday through Friday. Interisland travel is not permitted on Fridays and Sundays. Most budget fares to and from Hawai‘i originate in California, including $139 one-way from Oakland and San Jose, and $159 from San Diego, Long Beach, and Los Angeles. For Hilo, the best deals are $168 from Long Beach, Los Angeles, Oakland, San Diego, and San Jose. Maui offers a wide range of flights, with fares starting at $139 from Southern California, $169 from Las Vegas, and $198 from Seattle.
This sale follows the recent introduction of the carrier's new fare class: Wanna Get Away Plus. This fare is more expensive than the standard Wanna Get Away tickets, which are Southwest’s cheapest, but cheaper than Anytime and Business Select. Like all Southwest fares, it includes two free checked bags and no change fees. However, it also provides extra benefits such as free same-day standby, flight changes, and increased frequent flyer points.
