The battery in your AirTag lasts approximately one year—here’s how you can check its status.
If you've been using an AirTag to keep track of your luggage for under a year, you might not be aware that its battery has a lifespan of about a year.
Just like replacing the battery of your iPhone, you can also swap out your AirTag's battery when it eventually runs out.
Apple will alert you through the FindMy app when your AirTag's battery is low, provided you've connected your AirTag in the app. You can also manually check the battery status by opening the app and selecting your AirTag under the "Items" section at the bottom.

When the time comes, instead of purchasing a new AirTag, you can simply replace its battery at a lower cost. This allows you to keep using your AirTag. According to Apple, look for a CR2032 lithium 3-volt coin battery labeled "Compatible with Apple AirTag."
Recommended batteries include the Panasonic CR2032 and Energizer CR2032, both of which are available on Amazon for $8 (for packs of 10 and six, respectively). You can also find these compatible batteries at most electronics retailers and pharmacies, as noted by Apple.
In summary
If you’re unable to find a battery quickly or prefer to replace your AirTag, each tag is priced at $28. Alternatively, you can purchase a four-pack for $80. Additionally, AirTags often go on sale.
If you realize you've had your AirTag for about a year, consider buying a set of replacement batteries for under $10.
