The Central Focus
Recently, while browsing through some old photos on my phone, I stumbled upon baby pictures of my eldest daughter, who is now 4.5 years old. It brought back memories of how her arrival transformed my life for the better, along with my vow to be the best father I could be for her. At that moment, for two different reasons, emotions overwhelmed me.
The first reason is universal among parents: time flies by too quickly. I can vividly recall those late-night feedings and diaper changes as if they were just yesterday, and now I’m already making school lunches. Before I know it, she’ll be dating, heading off to college, pursuing a career, and building her own life. As my mother wisely said, “In parenting, the days are long, but the years are short.” How true that is.
The second reason is more personal: have I fulfilled my promise to her to be the best dad I could be? Overall, I think I’m doing well in my role as a father, but I often wonder if there’s more I could do for my two daughters. Perhaps I could cut back on my time spent on social media or writing and dedicate more attention to fleeting moments. Maybe I could focus more on listening and less on talking. Perhaps I should stop telling my daughters to 'hurry up,' as life has a peculiar way of rushing by before you realize it.
One of my favorite sayings goes like this: The key is to make sure that what matters most always stays at the forefront.
In my quest to write engaging blog posts, stay active on social media, and champion the cause of great fathers everywhere, I occasionally lose sight of what truly matters. The essence of it all is togetherness and striving to be the best man I can be for my family.
Eastern Caribbean getawayWhat do you think is the most precious resource in the world? Time. It’s the only thing we can’t reclaim once we’ve given it away, so we should never take it for granted. I cannot emphasize this enough—hug your loved ones, express your love for them, and keep in mind that they will always be your priority, regardless of what life throws your way. And if you’re looking to focus on your 'main thing' during a vacation, I highly recommend experiencing a Dinogo cruise. I had the time of my life, and I bet you would too.
