The U.S. will not implement widespread lockdowns again, despite the rise of the delta variant.

The nation's leading infectious disease expert has stated that another round of extensive lockdowns is unnecessary, even with the increasing presence of the delta variant of COVID-19.

During an interview on ABC's 'This Week' on August 1, Dr. Anthony Fauci expressed concern that the pandemic's situation may worsen before improvement occurs, yet he believes sufficient vaccination levels will prevent a repeat of last winter's severe lockdown measures, as reported by Reuters.

Fauci remarked, 'I don't anticipate lockdowns. While we may not have enough vaccinated individuals to eliminate the outbreak, I believe we have enough to avoid the dire situation we faced last winter. However, conditions are likely to worsen.'

As reported by Reuters, the delta variant cases have nearly doubled in the past ten days, mainly affecting unvaccinated individuals, although there have been a limited number of 'breakthrough cases' among those vaccinated against COVID-19.

The swift transmission of the variant could hinder our recovering economy, possibly causing a slowdown in the job market that has recently shown signs of improvement. Nonetheless, the rising cases have sparked an increase in vaccination rates across the U.S., which had previously stalled after the spring's peak.

While the U.S. is expected to steer clear of widespread lockdowns, several other nations -- including Thailand, Vietnam, and the Philippines -- have reinstated certain restrictions in areas identified as 'hot spots.'
