Universal Studios Hollywood now brings that magical experience to life with the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, located just 10 miles from downtown Los Angeles.

Before dawn, thousands of eager fans gathered outside, ready to be among the first to step into Hogsmeade, the charming village where Hogwarts students – and now muggles – can sip butterbeer or have their wand selected at Ollivanders Wand Shop.

A major attraction at the new Universal Studios Hollywood park is the Forbidden Journey, a roller coaster that blends thrilling motion with cutting-edge 3D HD technology – a first in the U.S.

The ride takes passengers on a journey through Hogwarts' classrooms, corridors, and soaring over the castle grounds.

Economic magic, anyone?

The new Harry Potter attraction is poised to strengthen Southern California’s reputation as a global leader in theme park destinations.

‘I literally have six wands in my office at city hall,’ said Eric Garcetti, the Mayor of Los Angeles, enthusiastically sharing his Potter fandom on the red carpet during the park’s grand opening.

The Democrat, an apparent Potter superfan, has set an ambitious target to attract 50 million tourists to Los Angeles by 2020.

The Wizarding World first opened at Universal Orlando in Florida in 2010, followed by a debut in Japan in 2014, both of which have significantly boosted revenues for parent company Comcast Corporation.
