This Lesser-Known Caribbean Island Now Features a New Luxury Resort
In early July 2024, Hurricane Beryl struck Grenada. Fortunately, Six Senses La Sagesse experienced minimal cosmetic damage and remains fully operational.
The Dinogo Perspective
Grenada, the southernmost Windward Island in the Caribbean, is often referred to as the Spice Island due to its rich soil producing a variety of crops and spices, making it one of the world's top nutmeg producers. Situated just south of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, this volcanic island boasts rainforests, waterfalls, and tranquil beaches, largely untouched by heavy tourism. Spanning 38 acres on the southeastern coast, Six Senses La Sagesse marks the wellness-focused brand's inaugural Caribbean location. Opening in May 2024, it offers 71 rooms, suites, and villas, some with up to five bedrooms, all nestled on hillsides with stunning coastal views and private pools in each accommodation.
Who is this for?
Six Senses La Sagesse spans 38 acres in the parish of St. David, located on the serene southeastern side of the island. The resort is approximately a 40-minute drive from Maurice Bishop International Airport (GND) and about 30 minutes from the lively capital, St. George’s. To visit some of the island's top attractions, such as the breathtaking Grand Anse Beach and the monkey-populated Grand Etang rainforest, you'll need a driver or taxi. I particularly enjoyed the exhilarating guided hike through the rainforest to Seven Sisters Waterfalls, which is a 45-minute drive from the resort, and appreciated the 15-minute stretch session with a personal trainer included before we set off.

The Setting
Though I traveled alone, I can easily imagine a couple hanging the turtle-shaped Do Not Disturb sign outside their door, enjoying complete seclusion. Families with children seeking fun by the pool, water sports, and creative activities will also find it ideal. The kids' club offers a delightful escape for little ones, allowing parents some much-needed downtime.
Nestled on 38 acres at the southeastern tip of Grenada, Six Senses La Sagesse marks the first Caribbean resort for this eco-conscious, wellness-focused hotel brand.
The Accommodations
The guest rooms, designed by Bleu Design, feature a calming marine blue and white color scheme that allows the breathtaking views of the sea and sky through the floor-to-ceiling windows to take center stage. My king-size bed, topped with organic lamb’s wool mattresses, was positioned centrally to maximize the view from the balcony. The spacious bathrooms are bright and airy, equipped with large windows, showers, deep soaking tubs, double sinks, and plenty of storage. Guests will find complimentary local snacks, including dried fruits and freshly baked treats, stocked in the rooms.
I spent the majority of my time on the outdoor terrace of my Panorama Ocean View Pool Suite (starting at $1,150). Mornings here are ideal for enjoying that first cup of coffee, practicing yoga with the in-room mat, or indulging in stargazing with a glass of wine come evening. Just a heads up: the rooms are equipped with European plugs, so be sure to bring an adapter.
The Culinary Experience
I visited shortly after the opening of Six Senses La Sagesse, and while the menu was still taking shape, the staff appeared dedicated to creating a strong connection to local flavors in their restaurant and bar selections. At Callaloo, I savored my breakfast, which offered a delightful array of farm-to-table options, from fresh fruits to beloved local dishes and hearty broths. The local 'bakes' (fried dough sprinkled with sea salt) were light and fluffy, sure to become a menu favorite. For lunch, guests seemed to flock to Panquai for their wood-fired pizzas, with the jerk chicken version being particularly tasty. Pro tip: Takeaway boxes allow you to enjoy leftovers in your room later.

At the signature SeaFire restaurant, I was willing to overlook the long wait once my dishes arrived: the standout roasted cauliflower with cashew chili paste and the perfectly cooked Kansas City striploin, sourced from grass-fed Argentinian cattle. I enjoyed this meal while being serenaded by a local singer accompanied by an acoustic guitar, all set against the soothing sound of waves crashing on the beach.
Service and Staff
The staff, predominantly Grenadian, truly elevate the hotel experience. Elwin, who picked me up from the airport in a Wi-Fi-equipped van, shared intriguing insights about the island’s complex political history, while Dwayne, my designated Guest Experience Manager (GEM), made sure my itinerary was packed with activities both on-site and off. From the front-desk team to the gift-shop attendant and the gardeners, everyone eagerly provided recommendations for exploring the island. Kareem, the experiences manager, took me on a drive to St. Andrew Parish, pointing out nutmeg, cinnamon, and various other plants growing alongside the road.
Accessibility Features
The hotel’s expansive grounds are hilly, but getting around is a breeze thanks to the staff-operated golf carts available on the property (a wheelchair-accessible buggy is also on hand). All restaurants and public areas are designed with accessibility in mind, although most rooms and suites require navigating stairs. However, the resort team informed me that they are working on an ADA-compliant room inventory. It's advisable to call ahead to confirm specific accessibility needs.

Spa and Wellness Retreat
Fitness enthusiasts will appreciate the diverse range of classes available, from sound bathing to aerial yoga, with personal training sessions also on offer. The spa invites relaxation with its pools, steam room, sauna, air-conditioned recovery areas, and spacious suspended swinging chairs—ideal for a post-treatment nap. A highlight is the signature Caribbean Cleansing Ritual (180 minutes/$410), conducted in a private spa cabana and featuring aura cleansing through a painting exercise, the chance to create your own body scrub, and a soothing coconut oil massage.
At the Alchemy Bar, staff teach guests how to utilize natural ingredients for wellness purposes. I joined four other guests to explore a selection of fresh ingredients, such as oats and cinnamon sticks, and learned to create a face scrub using a mortar and pestle.
