Dubai, famed for its awe-inspiring architecture and iconic skyline, is now being viewed through a fresh lens by artist Baber Afzal. His remarkable series of images blends the city's renowned towers and spires with a unique fusion of architecture, environment, and atmosphere.

Afzal, inspired by Dubai's ever-evolving architectural landscape, explains, 'The city’s continual transformation motivates me, offering unique perspectives that I can share through my photography.'

At 40, Afzal masterfully combines landscape and architectural photography with visual art techniques to bring Dubai’s dynamic beauty to life.

Afzal reflects, 'Whether I’m photographing the cityscape or desert dunes, the region's hazy sunsets and sunrises remain a constant inspiration. This awareness of the climate led to a distinctive editing style that brings my vision to life.'

Baber Afzal, originally from Pakistan, began his artistic journey in 2007. He shares, 'My passion for art grew when I captured and edited the stunning landscapes of Margalla Hills in Islamabad. The process of adjusting colors and contrasts fascinated me, and that's what drew me to editing.'

Afzal carefully scouts locations before each shoot, often spending hours to get the perfect shot. Afterward, he dedicates several days to post-production, where he manipulates the image to create striking, ethereal visuals that reflect his vision.

Afzal believes that art is a powerful way to express human emotions and complex ideas. 'I aim to reveal the hidden beauty in both urban life and nature by presenting visual concepts in a fresh, enlightening way,' he says.

Afzal’s work has earned global recognition, winning awards and being featured in both local and international magazines and photography books. Recently, his piece 'LUMINOUS' was displayed at the prestigious 'NFT NYC 2023' event in New York City.

Afzal creates much of his art as NFTs (non-fungible tokens), leveraging digital technology to add animation and intricate visuals, producing one-of-a-kind, dreamlike moving images.

Afzal envisions technology playing a pivotal role in the future of Dubai’s art scene. 'I anticipate more artists, myself included, experimenting with technology and using it in innovative ways to shape the future of our work,' he says.
