Top Hotels to Experience in Fort Lauderdale
South Florida attracts travelers looking for warm sunshine, relaxation, and vibrant dining, nightlife, and cultural experiences. Each city and beach town in the area boasts its own distinctive charm and reasons to explore. Take Fort Lauderdale, for instance. Known for its extensive canal system and a strong yachting culture, it's often called the 'Venice of America.' This city is also linked with spring break and cruise travel, as Port Everglades ranks among the world's largest cruise ports.
As a key player in the tourism industry, Fort Lauderdale naturally hosts an array of luxurious hotels — many offering beachfront views, rooftop lounges, and unforgettable dining options. Merging my personal experiences with editor-favorite locations and winners from T+L’s esteemed World’s Best Awards and It List, I’ve curated a selection of the finest hotels in Fort Lauderdale. Here’s where to book your stay during your next visit to this sunny paradise.
Four Seasons Fort Lauderdale Hotel and Residences
Image courtesy of Four Seasons ResortsEvelyn’s offers one of the top dining experiences in Fort Lauderdale; Chef Brandon Salomon crafts a menu that is both fresh and perfectly suited to the beachfront ambiance.
The pool deck on the third floor is more vibrant than tranquil, though it remains a great spot for hot summer days.
The Four Seasons Hotel and Residences Fort Lauderdale, a winner of the It List 2023, exudes a level of elegance rare in the city. This charm is evident from the moment you enter the stylish lobby, continuing throughout the property—from the bar at MAASS (the 'Gertrude' espresso martini comes highly recommended) to attentive poolside service, private balconies, and the convenient grab-and-go coffee bar, Honey Fitz.
Like other boutique Four Seasons locations (with a total of 189 rooms), the Fort Lauderdale hotel offers a cozy atmosphere where guests feel appreciated and attended to during their stay — without being overwhelmed or intruded upon. The staff clearly takes pride in providing a sense of tranquility and care, whether that means ensuring the perfect daily smoothie or adjusting lounge chairs to shield guests from the intense Florida sun.

The Ritz-Carlton, Fort Lauderdale
Image courtesy of MarriottThe full-service spa offers a hidden oasis, and the therapists are exceptionally skilled; my deep-tissue massage was among the best I’ve ever experienced.
The WiFi was inconsistent during my stay, and I had to rely on my phone's hotspot for video calls.
When you arrive at a Ritz-Carlton hotel, you expect a certain level of exceptional service — and The Ritz-Carlton, Fort Lauderdale certainly delivers. The expansive lobby immediately conveys that this is a place where you can tailor your own experience. Upon check-in, you’ll learn about the perks tied to your room key: beach chairs and an umbrella, pool access, and even complimentary water taxi passes for exploring the city in a unique way.
For dining on-site, guests can enjoy Burlock Coast, a ‘restaurant-café-market-bar’, or the Poolside Café. Both menus feature a blend of elevated dishes and classic comfort food. On a day when you crave indulgence, the Bootleg Burger or Cowboy Steak, accompanied by a well-crafted cocktail, will definitely satisfy your appetite.

The bathrooms are in need of a refresh.
W Fort Lauderdale blends traditional luxury with a modern, vibrant atmosphere, featuring thoughtfully designed amenities and accommodations. This beachfront retreat caters to a diverse array of guests. One of its highlights is the WET Deck pool, an inviting space perfect for kicking off your weekend while lounging with a frozen drink. If you’re visiting for business (as I was), you'll find plenty of work-friendly spots, whether it’s on your room’s balcony or in the Living Room, a spacious bar and social hub on the fourth floor.

Conrad Fort Lauderdale Beach
Image courtesy of HiltonYou won’t find softer hotel sheets at any other luxury property.
The atmosphere feels more suited for business travelers; during my visit, several corporate groups were utilizing the hotel's facilities and amenities.
Every room at Conrad Fort Lauderdale Beach is a suite, featuring small kitchens, balconies, and some of the most comfortable hotel beds I've ever experienced. This is the kind of hotel where you’ll wish you had booked a longer stay, especially if you have to leave the property. The accommodations rival the appeal of the pool deck, spa, gym (complete with Peloton bikes), and especially the beach chairs. The beach is just a short walk from the hotel, and the resort fee covers two beach chairs and an umbrella.
Before and after you settle by the ocean for most of the day, you might want to join the hotel’s sunrise yoga sessions or take advantage of the two-hour bike rentals (also included in the resort fee). When it’s time for dinner, be sure to make a reservation at Takato — nothing beats enjoying sushi after a sun-soaked day.

Pelican Grand Beach Resort
Image courtesy of Pelican Grand Beach ResortFamily-friendly features like a lazy river and an ice cream parlor make this resort ideal for travelers of all ages.
If you prefer a trendier and more vibrant atmosphere, you might want to look elsewhere.
Recognized in our World’s Best Awards for both 2022 and 2023, Pelican Grand Beach Resort is one of the rare hotels in Fort Lauderdale situated right on the beach (most are across a busy road). This unmatched oceanfront access, combined with the city's only lazy river, sets the 157-room resort apart and offers a more laid-back atmosphere than many competitors.
The lazy river and zero-entry swimming pool are definitely standout features for most guests, especially during the summer months. However, the rooftop spa and dining options are also noteworthy. Indulging in a treatment at the Swedish-inspired PURE Spa is a perfect way to unwind. While the resort offers just two restaurants—seafood-centric OCEAN2000 and the cocktail bar O2K Lounge—there’s also a delightful ice cream parlor: nightly visits to The Emporium are a must.

Lago Mar Beach Resort & Club

The guest rooms feature traditional decor, which may not appeal to all travelers.
Florida is home to numerous resorts, yet only a select few make it to our annual World’s Best Awards list. Lago Mar Beach Resort & Club is among this distinguished group. It earned high ratings in 2021 and remains a favorite for families seeking fun in the sun.
While some resorts may shine in specific areas, this 204-room establishment (family-owned for 60 years) excels across the board. It boasts over 500 feet of private beach, a 9,000-square-foot lagoon-style pool, and ample cabanas and lounge chairs. Entertainment options abound, including beach volleyball, pickleball, a putting course, and four tennis courts. Hyatt Centric Las Olas Fort Lauderdale
Courtesy of HyattThe rooftop pool offers a serene escape in the heart of downtown Fort Lauderdale.
It’s approximately a 10-minute drive to the beach.
Not every trip to Fort Lauderdale allows for beach time; some visits are work-related. For those needing to stay in the downtown area, Hyatt Centric Las Olas Fort Lauderdale stands out as an excellent choice. The 238-room hotel radiates cleanliness and care, featuring modern decor with a hint of nautical charm, and the rooms are well-equipped for all your needs.
The hotel’s highlights include breathtaking city views from guest room balconies, a rooftop pool, and a unique dining experience on the ninth floor. Named Room Nine01, this speakeasy-style venue (located in a transformed guestroom) is a must-visit for both hotel guests and those looking for a distinctive date night. Hilton Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort
Nightly rates are generally more budget-friendly compared to nearby properties.
The hotel lacks distinct character; it's primarily for beach access and typical Hilton services.
Not every hotel stay needs to be a unique experience. Sometimes, guests simply want a bright, airy room — maybe one booked using Hilton Honors points — along with easy access to the beach and pool. If that sounds like you, the Hilton Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort could be a perfect fit. This oceanfront hotel boasts stunning views of the blue waters along Fort Lauderdale Beach, providing many rooms with the quintessential Florida vacation backdrop.
I recommend reserving this hotel for a long weekend, ideally for two or three nights. This allows you ample time to savor the wraparound deck, enjoy the outdoor pool, and perhaps indulge in a treatment at the full-service spa. For fitness enthusiasts, there’s an on-site gym, or you can take a leisurely stroll down N Fort Lauderdale Beach Blvd, appreciating the palm trees and sandy vistas along the route.

With only 24 rooms and suites, this boutique hotel exudes charm and offers an intimate atmosphere. It’s the perfect spot to catch up on your reading on one of the terraces or take a peaceful catnap by the courtyard pool.
The Pillars Hotel & Club features additional perks such as a private dock for water taxis and exclusive dining at The Secret Garden restaurant, available only to guests and members. As a visitor, you automatically receive ‘membership’ status during your stay, granting you access to elegant dining and cocktail events.

Important Information Before You Arrive
Think About Renting a Vehicle
Depending on your accommodation in Fort Lauderdale and any plans to visit nearby locations like Miami, renting a car could be beneficial. While there are plenty of Ubers and Lyfts available, as well as the Water Taxi service, having your own vehicle can save you money if you frequently travel to places that aren't easily walkable.
Anticipate Generally Warm Weather All Year
There's really no bad time to visit Fort Lauderdale since temperatures tend to stay warm even in winter. However, keep in mind that January typically sees average temperatures around 60 degrees, which isn't the best for sunbathing or swimming. Also, be aware of the rainy season, which lasts from May to October and coincides with hurricane season.
Verify the Event Calendar Before Finalizing Your Plans
Fort Lauderdale boasts a significant cruise port and is renowned for its numerous celebrations and holidays. To avoid large crowds and inflated prices, consider scheduling your visit during a time when major events, such as the Las Olas Wine & Food Festival, the Fort Lauderdale Air Show, or the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, are not taking place.
Our Methodology for Selecting These Hotels
Lydia Mansel, a writer based on the East Coast, has spent almost a decade traveling to various popular tropical destinations, with a special emphasis on South Florida. In curating this hotel list, she combined her personal experiences with editorial recommendations and performance metrics from the World’s Best Awards and It List. As she refined her choices, she took into account each hotel's amenities, interior design, location, and other essential elements that enhance the guest experience, ensuring that all selections reflect our T+L Hotel Values.
