Wyndham Grand Rio Mar to Undergo Major Renovation at Renowned Puerto Rico Resort
A significant transformation is on the horizon for the Wyndham Grand Rio Mar Rainforest Beach and Golf Resort in northeastern Puerto Rico, set to take place over the coming months.
Owned by LionGrove, this property—recognized by TPG as one of the top Wyndham resorts globally—will see a comprehensive renovation affecting all 400 guest rooms, alongside upgrades to its 10 dining venues, lobby, pool area, and nightlife spots. This renovation will unfold over three phases, starting in December.
The first reveal at the end of the year will showcase two new pools, upgraded cabanas, and a refreshed lobby and arrival area. The second phase, expected early next year, will feature redesigned guest rooms and suites, along with a new all-day café. The final phase, anticipated in the fall of 2025, will introduce three new restaurants, a new Xplorers Club for immersive experiences inspired by the nearby El Yunque National Rainforest, a racquet center, and additional wellness offerings.

"We are entering an exciting new era for the resort. We’re not only surrounded by the stunning beauty of the rainforest and ocean; we're weaving it into every facet of the guest experience," stated Amadeo Zarzosa, senior vice president of operations at LionGrove and general manager of Wyndham Grand Rio Mar Rainforest Beach and Golf Resort. "This transformation will demonstrate to both visitors and locals that something truly extraordinary is happening in Rio Grande."
The Wyndham Grand resort boasts two golf courses, features one of the Caribbean's largest ballrooms, and spans 2 miles of private beach adjacent to El Yunque National Rainforest and the Mameyes River. The enhanced resort will be an ideal destination for those seeking a sunny escape, a paradise for meetings, or a taste of Puerto Rico's natural beauty, facilitated by the Xplorers Club, which can arrange activities like kayaking on the Mameyes River or stargazing.
Rates at the updated resort, available starting next February (when the guest room renovations are expected to be completed), begin at $435 or 30,000 Wyndham Rewards points per night.
