Rarely have I had such a dirty, musty hotel room. It's a shame to offer such rooms. It looks nothing like the photos.Want you to book yourself up to the other side (sea)The pool is greenish yellow and stinks.I don't even want to talk about the bathroom.I'm speechless and disgusted. To all backpackers, spend a few more euros and book something nicer because that's a complete disgrace. In addition, an incredibly loud plane continues to fly overhead as the runway begins shortly afterwards.Thank God it was only a short night where we slept on our own towels.

So I don't know for the life of me where all the good reviews from other guests come from. Maybe they were in a different hotel. Anyways: The good things first. We stayed on the beach side, which is probably where the nice rooms are. I can't say anything about the other complex (across the street), we weren't there, but you can read about it in other reviews. Our room on the beach side was ok. Not super luxurious but good standard. There were extra pool towels provided, tea, coffee and 2 bottles of water included. The rest was available with an additional charge. Both pools on this site were clean and the grounds were also well maintained. The beach right in front of the hotel is a nice feature, but it's not the prettiest. Many boats dock there and the pier with the ferries to Koh Phangan and Koh Tao is also within walking distance. That was also the reason why we chose this hotel, as we only wanted to spend one night so we could quickly get to the airport the next day (which is about 15 minutes away). And the dog is already buried here. This hotel is located right next to the airport's entry and departure path, which means that a plane whizzes over your head about every 15 minutes. Airplane noise included, even in the evening. We were able to ignore this as we only booked one night. If we had stayed longer, we would definitely have looked for something else, better, for the price. But now to the real and decisive factor in the bad review: This hotel offers exactly 0 service. Classic situations and things that are common practice in other hotels and are solved normally do not exist here.We arrived at the hotel around 12 p.m., check-in was at 2 p.m. Even though the majority of the rooms were empty, we were unable to move into our room (which was one of the more expensive ones in the hotel - pool access, some with a sea view) earlier. For every hour we wanted to get into the room earlier, they would have charged us 100 baht extra. However, we were allowed to leave our luggage in the anteroom and use the facilities, for example the pool, for the time being. Great we thought, are there pool towels we could use for this? No, these are only available in the room.So we don't use the facility, but kill time until 2 p.m. and then leave either money or our passport as a deposit for the key when we check in. Our luggage was only brought to the room by an employee after we had gasped once after the whole procedure. Otherwise we would have had to bring it to the room ourselves. In the evening we ordered food from a place outside (the bar/restaurant in the hotel was already closed) and just wanted 2 forks. There is none (despite the hotel having its own restaurant). We had to specially go to 7Eleven to get plastic cutlery. The display on the television was partially broken and at check-out (which was around 6:00 a.m. for us) the pass was only handed out when a second person from the staff had checked the room.We could understand that to a certain extent, but you still feel like a criminal, or at least like a supplicant, even though the rooms in this hotel are not necessarily in the lowest price category. At least not the one we had.In short, for anyone looking for something nice for a longer stay: choose something else for the same price (preferably on the other side of the island). We travel a lot and travel internationally a lot, but we have rarely experienced such poor and sometimes unfriendly service as at the Samui Mermaid.

We spent the first night in a bungalow with A/C on the sea side because the cheaper bungalow, also with A/C, on the garden side (on the other side of the road) was only available from the second to the fourth night. If you stay in one of the garden-side bungalows, you can park your scooter in front of your accommodation. Both clean accommodations with good private bathrooms and a bottle of water each per day. Towels for the pool areas and hairdryer. Comfortable beds and good linen. It's practically close to the airport but it wasn't a problem for us.
