Koh Ngai Resort

We stayed 5 nights in a bungalow (on stilts) with garden view. For us this was the perfect room: spacious, with rustic wooden floor, breezy, well maintained, with a comfortable big bathroom and huge balcony overlooking the lovely grounds and beautiful bay. Although our bungalow was advertised as twin bedded the management arranged on our request a double bed instead, which we very much appreciated. Free drinking water and coffee/tea were provided on daily basis. A sumptuous breakfast buffet was included, with delicious western and oriental items. In the atmospheric restaurant we had some very good lunches and dinners, while enjoying romantic views over the Andaman Sea. Staff was always super friendly and attentive. At the reception they have good information about boat excursions and ferry schedules to your onward destination. The hotel rents out free snorkeling gear and kayaks to guests, which we definitely found a nice surprise, especially since these were all in extremely good condition. Relaxing massages at reasonable rates are given as well.Good to know is that Koh Ngai Resort is located in a pretty isolated corner of the island, only reachable by boat or via a difficult (partly broken) path from the long main beach. During the day this is not a problem - and by kayak even very enjoyable - but in the night you’ll probably want to have your dinners ‘at home’.Also is the Koh Ngai Beach Resort quite a big property, that can accommodate loads of guests. Upon arrival - seeing so many buildings, a swimming pool and even a small children's playground - our first impression therefore wasn't that possitive, as we feared to have ended up in a too touristy place. Happily this soon turned out 100% the opposite: the resort is set up very pleasant, with different types of rooms/bungalows, in a lush garden, all very well looked after and there's a cheery positive vibe all around the place. Of course probably we were lucky too, since there were not so many guests at the time we were there...Anyway we truly enjoyed every minute of our stay and regretted we had to leave.

At high tide it's a fantastic backdrop, at low tide it's shallow for canoeing and snorkeling, but the house reef was absolutely amazing!! Pufferfish, moray eels, anemones, clownfish and great corals. Other boats stop there around the bend as a snorkeling spot.Quiet hotel somewhat cut off from the rest. 7min canoe or 10min jungle trail where poisonous water snakes come ashore at night. Hotel lady said not recommended at night.The 40-minute jungle walk from the main beach to paradise beach is full of varen, the destination is a bit disappointing compared to where we were. There weren't any mosquitoes with us.But nasty bed bugs in the room, not visible but completely nailed down in the morning. Equipment very empty, no chair, no refrigerator. You can put the things in the fridge in the supermarket.Food wasn't the best ever but not bad, a bit more expensive. Canoe free of charge, sometimes until 3:30 p.m. or 5 p.m. depending on low tide. Supermarket and restaurant open until 9-10 p.m., limited selection, same for breakfast, but not bad.All in all, worth a visit if you want to snorkel or relax. Pool in the blazing sun, ok in the evenings. Sunrise is fantastic, sun sets behind the mountain on the back of the island.There is a little more going on on Main Beach and there are also several bars, restaurants and cafés.

Beautifully located resort. Very nice outdoor area with a fantastic beach.The rooms are clean but in need of renovation.

Super nice hotel on a very pretty island, away from the others, very quiet

Beautiful location however the resort is below the standards. If this was for summer camp students that would be ok but not for adult travelers. The breakfast was poor and all facilities were very basic. If coming back to Ko Ngai I would pick a different resort.

Beautiful island without any traffic to switch off. If you don't want to do anything, this is the right place. However, you are completely chained out of the hotel because you are not mobile. Therefore expensive for Thai standards.

Great accommodation to spend a relaxing holiday. Very clean and maintained. Possibility to borrow mask, snorkel, fins, towels and kayak (3 hours).The only problem is that the resort restaurant is the only option to eat in the evening because at night, it is more difficult to cross the path along the coast.

Great location, beautiful beach, bungalows on different levels equipped with the most important things, staff are always at their best, infrastructure seems dilapidated and has only been sporadically renewed in some cases, rubbish is burned daily in the back area (be careful of large monitor lizards), water has to be bought in disposable bottles
