My husband and I had a blast staying at Taiwan riverside! We booked a deluxe bungalow, the day tour with pick up and drop off (on the day of check out) and the elephant wake up call. The day tour started at 8:30 at our hotel in chiang mai. The resort organized a taxi transfer so we had a smooth ride to the location. After a one hour drive we arrived in the middle of the jungle and could already hear the elephants while getting out of the car.Zen, our guide for the day, picked us and the other couple of our group up at the check in counter, gave us wet bags and rain capes as it was supposed to be rainy. After a short introduction to the purpose of the sanctuary we went over the bridge to the main area. A few minutes later we went a bit further to feed sugar cane to a couple of elephants which have always been supervised by their mahouts. After feeding we went on a hike through the jungle uphill. As it was raining the days before it was really muddy, so wearing proper gear and not flip flops would have been a better choice.Right after the hike the elephants and us jumped into the river for bathing time. The mahouts gave the elephants a couple of commands e.g. aqua or shower. The result was a big shower from the trunk of the elephant we washed. The next point on the agenda was a bamboo rafting tour, which was quite nice and chill. As we went to the next stop, a small temple by a waterfall it started to rain cats and dogs. But: it’s Thailand, so the rain was not cold and the ponchos kept us relatively dry. After lunch at the temple we soaked under the picturesque waterfall.Back at tawan, it was time to check into our little bungalow, which was surrounded by rambutan and pomelo trees. After a quick shower we went to the restaurant which has a very nice view on the river and a nice jungle feel. Prices are very affordable and the food is really amazing! The next morning we got woken up by 2 elephants which wanted to be fed. Those trunks are really strong and the 3 tons beasts ate the 25kg of sugar cane and corn in no time!Breakfast was served in the restaurant and was included in the price of the accomodation.

It may vary from room to room, but it is difficult to accommodate more than 2 people in rooms that are good for elephant wake-up calls.Although the water pressure was weak and inconvenient,(It feels like a Naksiteo bungalow) I got to see elephants really close up. My 5-year-old loved it. It was definitely the most memorable place. The self-run restaurant was also good and tasty.

1. The room as such is fine. The bathroom could be improved by a thousand because it gave the impression of a hostel room bathroom.2. The service was very good. Very friendly staff.3. Super simple breakfast. We had dinner right there and the food was ok.4. We hired the entire elephant circuit but my partner got sick and we were only able to do the elephant care, which was basically feeding the elephant, walking it and bathing it for a little while. What we didn't like is that it was obvious that the experience was done only for the photos because they insisted a lot on the photo and posing and such, which we didn't like at all. In addition, to make the elephant walk, they poked it with a stick that had a point at the end. I don't think it's 100% sanctuary. I think the activity (1,900 bats is very expensive for what it is).

I love it haha. Even though it's in the countryside, it's very clean. However, the bathroom window was broken and fell off, so there was a huge gap, so I slept worried that bugs would come in. However, I felt a little relieved because there was an electric insect trap in the room.My husband wants to go again haha.

I feel so sorry for the elephants. They look very unhappy. When I went on the Sanctuary Elephant Tour, there were elephants that were different from the other elephants and were behaving strangely, such as repetitive behavior. If you love animals, don't spend this hotel. I went there and was shocked and regretted my choice. And the water quality in the room was shocking. The shower filter turned black within 30 seconds of turning on the water. It's muddy water.

You will get a feeling of living in the forest with elephants. Room was normal with basic things. Breakfast was very basic and I don't like it personally. If the room bookings are included with elephant activities then it would be better. paying extra 1500 or more for each activities is not value for the money. All the staffs were very friendly and helpful. Overall it was a different staying experience.
