We had booked for two nights but after the first we left because it was in an isolated position and to reach it you had to pass the mountains in the center of the island. We had a 125 scooter and it wasn't comfortable. Furthermore, during the first night there was a strong storm and a stream arrived on the beach which brought a lot of mud down from the mountain, dirtying the crystal clear water.

Well priced with a wonderful location away from the hustle and bustle of the island. Some of the staff are not so friendly. The room is a bungalow built into the rock, so not modern or luxurious. The view is fantastic.

Ran away immediately after check in!!We were looking for a wilder and more characteristic context, which is why we chose it as our second accommodation on Koh Phangan, but when we found ourselves there, we immediately left.1. Very distant and isolated place. There is no connection, the wifi doesn't reach the rooms and the restaurant is really bad. It might be nice to get away from technology, but there, any emergency, it's difficult to communicate and call.2. Unfriendly staff3. Our bungalow was dirty and poorly maintained. Open roof, toilet that discharged water outside, rusty padlock (to close the door). We were left holding the handle after 10 minutes. No air conditioning, no fridge.4. Resort in general poorly maintained, dirt everywhere.5. Going out in the evening on a motorbike could be feasible but it is necessary to take many isolated and dark routes before reaching civilization6. Presence of many animals, even in the restaurant. The chances of them entering the room are very high.7. If you want a taxi only the resort can call it for 1000 baht

It was so great to return after almost 30 years and find that Mai Pen Rai has the same friendly hospitality that I know and love of Thailand. There are many changes of course but the laid back charm of Than Sadet and the welcoming nature of the islanders is still there. I had the most beautiful room, with the best view high above the beach. A newly refurbished bungalow that I wish I could spend a month in! The food at the restaurant was delicious and I was so glad to get some mango and sticky rice. It was lovely to spend time on the beach and at the waterfall. Thanks everyone at Mai Pen Rai I had a wonderful time.

So I've been here a couple of times and never disappointed, still amazing view of the beach, good food and very friendly staff.Love the location because it's quiet and relaxing. A beautiful beach and little hidden gems like the waterfall and a mini beach nearby that you could walk to. DONT MISS IT!The rooms are authentic thai style, well decorated and clear.Rental bikes are cheap and easy to get, which is a MUST if you want to explore Koh Phangan a little more.**Note**To get to the rooms is a bit of a walk so if you have a big suitcase or bag, you could ask for staff to help you to carry your baggage if needed but since in due to low staff, you many have to wait just a little bit.

A really long walk to the bungalows, up and down stairs, and even under a bolder. Wouldn't recommend if you have any mobility issues, but it is a very pretty walk regardless.Only two restaurants, one with a really steep hike up the side of the cliff, but with amazing views, and the other on the beach. There's only wifi at the restaurants, for obvious reasons, but since it isn't super busy they seemed fine with people just coming and sitting to use the internet.If you're getting there on scooter from the port side of the island, it's very hilly, so make sure your bikes are strong enough to get you and what ever you have up the hill. Learned that the hard way with two people and two backpacks.Overall, feels very remote and quaint. A truly unique experience. It was very relaxing once we were settled.

Location of these bungalows is exceptional with the beach and national park. We seen a lot of wildlife on our stay. This is perfect if you want a quiet time away and don’t mind a 20min drive to closest shop. We stayed here for full moon and reception organised a taxi in and out for anyone staying. Can also rent a scooter directly from reception with a range of Honda 125cc. Rooms were a little dark and with only one small fan. One downside was the amount of flies in the reception/restaurant area.

Location of these Bungalows is absolutely beautiful, you are in a hidden part of the island and you wake up every morning to the beautiful sea.Restaurant at this place is okay, workers and staff are really really nice, the food is okay the real downfall is the amount of flies when eating. It definitely puts you off eating here but the restaurant next door up the stairs is much nicer!We rented scooters and was very cheap to do so,There was transport organised on a taxi boat for full moon which was great, can be very expensive from the piers to get taxis to these bungalows so maybe call them first and see if they can get a taxi for you!Rooms are lovely very simple, spacious, they’re dark and have no aircon however we are able to sleep with just fan!Would recommend this place just disappointing about the restaurant however the location and private beach brings this place up in starsEverything we bought at restaurant went on the room bill which was great not having to constantly pay for bits

Wow, what a place to visit! I am 100% returning here when I come back to Thailand, it was my favourite place that I stayed at. The beach and view alone is reason enough to come here, this is easily the best beach in Koh Phangan and it’s right on your doorstep when you stay here. Super quiet and relaxing, you don’t have to book a room here, you can also come for a day trip and chill on the beach and get some food at the beach front restaurant, but my sister and I stayed here for a week. My only complaint is that the service is quite bad, but the location excuses it. In terms of cleaning and changing bin linings and towels, etc. The food at the restaurant is yum and decently priced, and the people who work here are very friendly. I can’t wait to come back here. Additionally, staying here is affordable - though I came here in off season. Also quite isolated from the towns, so be prepared to rent a scooter if you need to get around - which they offer.

A wonderfully situated, surrounded by nature, picturesque, intimate hotel for people who need relaxation and isolation from the world. Beautiful beach, great atmosphere and very polite service. I recommend it wholeheartedly.

Extremely beautiful location. We had the bungalow directly above the sea, beautiful terrace. Unfortunately no windows and only outdated shutters that are unfortunately neither tight nor burglar-proof.😅.....We underestimated the extreme heat a bit and after 2 days we moved to Plaas where we found a climate and wonderful staff.Unfortunately, we didn't have the best experience with the service at Mai Pen Rai. We also rented 2 scooters. We had to hand over passports. After I returned the first scooter after 5 minutes because of a defective front wheel, I was given another one without discussion, which surprised me a bit. The scooters are old but apart from the first one you ride... there is simply no tread on the tire, which is normal on the island. At the end of the holiday my rear tire burst and staff couldn't be reached. After I had it replaced in a workshop at my own expense, there wasn't even a thank you or a sorry... it doesn't matter...To the beach:The beaches are very beautiful, but it is extremely unfortunate that the residents completely litter it. Everything behind the sandy edge is full of plastic, car parts, building materials, etc. including under the bungalows.Something I really can't understand in a national park but something that can actually be found all over Thailand.As I said, great locationThe rest goes like this...And yes...I can't recommend the restaurant. It's much better to go up the hill where someone can cook very well.😉

We took a taxi to the port to drop us off there, for 500 baht less than if we went through the hotel. Arrived there, we had a welcome drink, there were 4 of us including a 3 year old and we had taken the bungalow on the beach. The ideal place. You can enjoy the view of the water and the sound of the waves in the evening on the hammock. The bungalow was good overall. There, you don't have much to do, apart from relaxing. Nothing on the horizon. The hotel has 2 restaurants, we liked the one upstairs less. On the beach one, everything is correct, the banana pancakes are delicious. We took the ORION cruise option and I also recommend it. This is a hotel where you have to stay a maximum of 3 nights. Be careful when leaving, you cannot call a taxi. Only the hotel can do this.

Careful Scam!!! They dont offer rooms with air conditioning! If you complain, they dont give you your money back. They just laugh at your problems ^^ its not worth it

Loved the place.. rooms are rustic and mostly broken.. no AC.. irrespective I would visit this place again and again due to the location it is in.. we would go dipping every night.. the night sky and sunrises are beautiful.. if peace and nature is what you are looking for, then look no more

Favourite place in the world.....unchanged unlike the rest of the island.Super chilled, beautiful beach and great staff.If you're looking for something sophisticated with A/C then this is definitely not for you.We stayed on the rocks, water front two years running. The huts are extremely simple and getting a little long in the tooth, but that doesn't bother us at all.Could benefit from an overhaul, and it seemed this year that there is work being done.You won't get a sea view anywhere like this for the money.....its spectacular.Don't bring your car like some people in other reviews, take the taxi from TS and hire a bike directly at MPR. There is a village 15mins away where you can enjoy other food and a 7eleven for bits and bobs.Super quiet in the evening after the daytrippers leave, don't expect much action after 9pm unless you're creating it yourself!Truly a unique spot in the world and my favourite place.
