Maleo Moyo Hotel & Dive Resort

We spent 2 nights at the Maleo Moyo hotel. I had been in contact with the boss before our arrival who was very responsive in responding to my questions regarding the whale shark excursion. But upon arriving at the hotel we were very disappointed. Rather cold reception from the boss, we had the impression that we were bothering him with our questions. Fortunately, the Indonesian staff is there to catch up, thanks to them. The bungalows are very cute, however the hotel could be a little better maintained. It looked a bit like it had been abandoned. We also regret the noise of the generator all afternoon next to the swimming pool. In terms of organization, we will have experienced better... around 1 hour of waiting to eat. And regarding our excursion to see the whale sharks, it was a bit chaotic too. No equipment provided and yet we had just asked for fins, for a price twice as expensive as from Sumbawa Besar (7,000,000 rupees). Luckily we saw some!!

I highly recommend this place! It was so relaxing and fun with so many adventure opportunities. The staff, owners and guides were so wonderful. Our guide, really went above and beyond when showing us around on our day trip. The rooms were comfortable and clean, the grounds were beautiful. Will definitely be returning.

We had a wonderful time at the Maleo Resort. Evert and his wife Dilla were very welcoming, gave us some tips and helped us organize our trip. The food was delicious and the room was very nice.Evert is also highly recommended as a diving instructor. I felt comfortable and safe throughout. The reef right in front of the resort is beautiful. Great recommendation!

Great chill place surrounded by nature. The water in the area is beautiful and the trips (bat cave/ waterfall) were super nice. Diving and snorkeling are both beautiful and I was lucky to see a baby tiger shark😊 (the grown ups are not there don't worry). Saw everything from squid/ octopus/ sharks/ lobster and much more. Pictures are from the trips.

The Hotel doesn't leave an very clean Impression and could be surely better taken care of. The food was ok and the staff friendly and attentive. Thats about it.

Good and decend Hotel in Sumbawa

We had a very nice week at Maleo Moyo at the beginning of January 2024. The bungalows are simple but cozy and clean. The food in the restaurant is also excellent.A highlight are the diving spots that can be reached with the diving center. The water is clear and full of fish. The spots can be reached within 10 minutes, so that after two dives you can be back at 12, just in time for lunch, and in the afternoon you can easily go on trips to one of the waterfalls or something similar. Non-divers also get their money's worth, as you can also do great snorkeling right at the hotel.

Exciting

This place deserves 5 stars, BUT... read on and you'll understand why I gave only 4. Bear with me, its long. 😊Maleo MoyoThe resort is beautifully situated in walking dstance from the harbour, right on the beach. I stayed in the budget room which was cute, quiet, very clean with nice bedding and mosquito nets. The food is amazing and reasonably priced. From crepes with choc spread for breakfast, pasta Carbonara to seafood and even the Dutch specialty 'pofertjes'.Amazing staff, tending to your every wish, beautiful pool, stunning sunsets and free drinking water during your stay.Now the snorkeling and diving isn't that great compared to anywhere else in Indonesia, so you might want to book that on a different island. The waterfall is amazing though, definitely a must see, go before 9 am to avoid crowds!The only thing that doesn't make me want to come back is the owner of Maleao Moyo. He has quite a rude attitude and we found him a couple of times asleep on the couch in the middle of the day next to reception. He eats all meals in the restaurant and his kids are around pretty much all day. Even though they were not misbehaving (but noisy), I find it inappropriate to have small kids sitting and eating at reception or using the pool for extended periods when guests are around. Guess being a mother myself I'm allergic to patriarchal vibes and children left to their own devices. The Indonesian mother works also at reception (extremely friendly) and looks after the kids a bit better. I have seen this scenario in a few isolated places in Indo, where a western (older) guy married a local woman, built a business, has a couple of kids and plays boss like in Colonial times. Even though their private life is none of my business, I don't feel comfortable witnessing this kind of behaviour.So, minus the owner spreading weird vibes, this place is an absolute gem!

The perfect place to switch off.The accommodation is about a 5-minute walk from the jetty. If desired, you can also be picked up there. But we inquired locally and then walked there.We slept in a bamboo hut, the mattresses, blankets and pillows were great and we slept great. There was also a fan and a mosquito net. If you want more comfort, you can also rent one of the bungalows. It was just right for us. The accommodation does not have WiFi, which wasn't a problem for us, we could use the staff's hotspot at any time.The owner of the property and the staff were super friendly and helpful. The owner's two children were so cute and we often played with them in the pool.The food was very tasty and they even cooked us a vegetarian curry upon request :-)The accommodation is right on the beach and you can enjoy the sunset from the terrace or the pool, it was just really beautiful.We also went diving four times and the underwater world is simply incredibly beautiful and untouched, the diving equipment was new and high quality. Our instructor Anton was great!We also went to two waterfalls that were beautiful and untouched.
