Just spent 8 days at Divers Lodge Lembeh.I had been diving in Indonesia before, but never Lembeh. I am an underwater photographer. This means I do not want to dive with a large group (or any group) if possible. I also may have much longer dive times as I like to spend as long as 30 minutes with a subject. There are many dive lodges to choose from in Lembeh and all dive pretty much the same sites, so it's not that easy to choose. There were several reasons I chose Divers Lodge Lembeh.1. The owner, Rob, responded promptly and clearly to all my email queries. This was quite unusual!2. A private dive guide is available at a small charge.3. A private boat is guaranteed if requested. This is totally unheard of and a godsend to an underwater photographer!4. The price was modest and all inclusive. In fact, NO DOWNPAYMENT was required.5. They will pick up and drop off at the airport with a reasonable charge (includes car and boat transportation).Let's just say I was NOT disappointed! Rob has been running this resort for 22 years. He is personable and efficient. There was absolutely no "drama" during my stay regarding facilities or other guests. As it turns out, I made a downpayment before I went. I actually dove a little less than I expected and received a REFUND for the unused amount. That was a first!Dining is family style but very flexible. Basically, breakfast as early as 630 am, lunch pretty much whenever you want, and dinner at 7 pm, approximately. There were always several choices of main courses and side dishes, and the chef was very open to suggestions. The accomodations are fantastic. PRIVATE bungalows for each guest with western bathroom, ceiling fan, and air conditioning. Daily maid service. Free laundry. Internet in the Bungalow (usually worked well, not always). No nonsense about diving. Dive depths, durations, locations, all up to you as long as no deep dives requiring decompression. No rushing. Dive guides took care of the gear, rinsing it after each dive day. Night dives available whenever you want, including Mandarin Fish dive around 5 pm.My dive guide reliably found frogfish, seahorses, coconut octopuses, even a blue-ringed octopus.Lembeh strait is truly a muck-divers macro photographer's heaven. I didn't see anything larger than a meter long (trumpet fish).Don't expect great visibility (average 10 meters or so). No fantastic wall diving that I saw. Best diving was muck or sandy bottom with some great coral heads.Divers Lodge Lembeh has many returning guests, and I can see why. After a week, I felt like an "adopted" member of the family.I would definitely return! Many thanks to Rob, his family, and his well-trained staff!Look for my videos coming soon at "Underwater with Dr. Andrew Wilner" on YouTube!PS: This is not a resort for non-divers or children (although they are welcome)! There is little else to do but dive. There are some side trips that are possible but I didn't take any. No pool. Local beach isn't that appealing. Great place to read a book!
