First the good stuff:The rooms are a pleasant size and are mostly clean. In general, the guesthouse has a good location. The ferry drops you off directly in front of the house. The owner is very nice.The bad things:We paid extra for lake view. The only thing we saw was an ugly garden and construction site. Every morning at 6:30 a.m. noise from people and construction begins, making sleep impossible. When we wanted a discount on our scooter because we didn't have a view of the lake despite the extra charge, it was non-negotiable for the owner and we rented the scooter somewhere else. The rooms have niches at the top that are not real windows but are only closed by bars. Any noise penetrates into the room. You can't swim at the guesthouse, I don't know where you can find suitable access to the lake...The highlight for us was the constant presence of cockroaches in the bathroom, which kept falling out of a hole in the rotten wooden ceiling.Also, the internet is so bad that you can't use it properly. The fact that we didn't have a network in the room made it pretty crappy.The worst thing was the mattresses, which were less than 10 cm thick and completely sagging. After 4 nights in this bed, I can get my back straightened at home.As a European, I don't expect western standards here in Asia, but you can have a few expectations.It wasn't a rat hole, you can handle it, but the price-performance ratio just isn't right.We wouldn't book again...I'm a bit sorry for the owner of this property for this review, but you have to stay honest...

Pleasant hotel with lake views from some rooms. Spacious, clean room with balcony. Hot water. Bottled water on arrival. Beautiful garden.
The host is very welcoming, pleasant and accommodating, always ready to give advice or find a solution.

Spacious rooms with charming furniture. Missed an electric kettle with mugs though to make tea, as the place doesn't serve any food or drinks to hotel guests. Unfortunately our shower was broken. Water was leaking from the tap and the hose and therefore only little actually coming out of the head. When we told the owner he said he would fix it later, while we're gone when cleaning the room. However when we returned neither was the room cleaned nor the shower fixed. Very unreliable. Entrance into the lake is quite uncomfortable as you have to step on plastic cover that feels very disgusting beneath your feet. Rest of the location is calm and pretty.

Incredibly friendly staff, perfect location to restaurants etc, stunning views over lake toba, beautiful garden, well appointed rooms with comfy beds and linen. Can't say enough good things about Gokhon Guest House. The staff topped up our water bottles every day and were always smiling. Sad to say goodbye to a wonderful stay.

Very clean spacious room, incredible view of lake Toba from the balcony. Very friendly and helpful staff.Will definitely stay again when I come back to the island! 😎

the rooms are clean and spacious, really comfortable, and the view is also great. You can swim in the hotel area because there is a pool in front, the service is also okay. Yesterday, when I was here, I could have a barbeque in the pavilion at night. It's recommended if you want to come here, the price is also quite cheap and you can get accommodation as good as this. Otherwise, if you come here again, it would be nice to stay here again
