Staying at Herry Old House Rural Homestay was an unforgettable experience that truly captured the essence of authentic, traditional living. From the moment I arrived, I was welcomed into the family with open arms, making me feel like a cherished guest rather than just a visitor. The accommodation very comfortable, with a rustic appeal that blended seamlessly into the surrounding landscape. Each morning, I awoke to the soothing sounds of nature and the aroma of home-cooked breakfast, which set the tone for a day of exploration and relaxation. One of the highlights of my stay was the guided trips to local attractions. The journey to the nearby waterfall was breathtaking, offering a serene escape into nature's beauty. The hot spring excursion was equally delightful, providing a perfect opportunity to unwind and soak in the natural warmth while surrounded by stunning scenery. But perhaps the most memorable aspect of my stay was the traditional food. Each meal was a feast for the senses, showcasing flavors and dishes that I had never experienced before. The family's dedication to preserving and sharing their culinary heritage was evident in every bite, making each meal an exceptional highlight of my visit.Overall, this homestay provided an enriching and immersive experience that went far beyond mere accommodation. It was a chance to connect deeply with local culture, enjoy breathtaking natural wonders, and savor some of the best traditional food I’ve ever had. If you’re seeking an authentic escape that combines comfort, cultural immersion, and unforgettable experiences, this rural homestay is truly a gem.

If you’re looking for a rural homestay with a wonderful Balinese family that’s completely off the beaten track, I highly recommend Herry Old Homestay. It’s in the village of Gadungan which is about an hour’s drive from Ubud. We’ve just spent two amazing days with Dwi and Herry and their four lovely kids who made us feel welcome and at home from the moment we met them. They took us on trips to local waterfalls and hot springs, made us delicious food, and shared a lot about their way of life. The kids also hit it off, despite not speaking the same language. This was a unanimous highlight from our one-month trip to in Bali.

I would not recommend it to others. You don't get the authentic feel at all that I was hoping for. There is no program planned and you don't know what to do (they don't quite know that either). The first day you arrive, you are left to your own and are told that you just have to cycle around a bit and have a look. I paid 2.5 million Rupees which is far better spent elsewhere!

I stayed with Herry, Dwi and their family for two nights. I had the most wonderful time with them! Their family is beautiful, kind and welcoming and made us feel like family throughout our stay.On the first day, we met the family and spent time playing uno with their younger children. Their children are so polite and kind, a real blessing. Then, Herry took us to a beautiful waterfall where we went swimming. We also drove to the top of a rice field to watch the sunset. On the second day we walked through their rice fields and met and spoke to the lovely ladies who were planting the rice, they were kind enough to let us have a go too! We carried on to a nearby gardens which had beautiful trees, plants and a koi fish pond. In the afternoon we went to a hot spring and bathed in the lovely warm mineral water. We were lucky that our final day coincided with a local fishing competition, so we headed down with the children to see the festivities. In the evenings we spent time with Herry, Dwi, and their friend Made. We had such a fun time sharing music and learning about their traditional dance.Herry and Dwi provided us with three delicious meals a day. Herry is a professional chef so it is no surprise that the food was the best Balinese food we’ve eaten in Bali, and presented so beautifully. They were so attentive and made sure we had everything we needed like water (they have big water tanks you can refill your bottle any time), toiletries, towels etc.I highly recommend staying with them.

The highlight of our stay in Bali, Herry and Dwi have such a wonderful family and their home was so welcoming. Amazing food and amazing activities, we were shown the rice plantation and even got to plant some rice ourselves. Trips to waterfalls and hot springs along side playing with their adorable children were some of the highlights. Thank you to our Bali family !
