Mekenyem house Ubud

We decided to extend our one-month trip and needed to find a new place to stay. Since we were in Ubud already, I visited Yudha at Mekenyem House to see if he had availability since we liked the less busy neighborhood of Nyuh Kuning. He showed me a room and it was ideal because there was plenty of space, a refrigerator, an electric kettle and a gas burner for cooking, if we wanted it.We ended up spending 5 months at Mekenyem House and thoroughly enjoyed the laid-back neighborhood and access to Blend Cafe right next door, home of the best tasting food art smoothie bowls in Ubud, which became our living room and a place to work, too. Several other restaurants and cafes in the area, including Black Sheep, Current, Mother's, Bali Bohemia, Cafe Wayan, and Warung Be Pasih for great sushi were regular stops.It's about a 15-minute walk from Mekenyem and through the Monkey Forest scooter/walking path to get to the south side of Ubud's busy district. Yoga Barn is a 20-minute walk, the Palace is about 35 minutes. We walked everywhere for the exercise but Gojek is easily available and there are several scooter rental places next to Mekenyem.The AC was fantastic, bed comfy, and the shower always hot. We were in a second-floor unit, so we had a balcony, which was great to kick back on.The value for the stay is amazing. It's not a five-star hotel, but it is quite good, especially if you intend to be out during the day. We're digital nomads, so we worked from our room as well -- especially on those hot muggy days so we could be in AC.Yudha and his father took great care of us. They asked daily if we needed anything (TP, room cleaning, more water, etc.) and they were always quick to respond when we reached out on WhatsApp.If you're looking for one of the better neighborhoods with less traffic and tourists, you can't beat everything that Nyuh Kuning and Mekenyem House have to offer.
