Blasting the loudest music until 3 in the morning, live band doing death metal covers until 3 in the morning. Short interlude to play some of the most obnoxious “dance/club” music I’ve ever heard in my life. No thought whatsoever for anyone in the village the sound could’ve of been heard for miles around. Good luck seeing any wildlife after their Saturday night party they will be sure to of scared off anything human or animal within a 10 mile radius

We would highly recommend Thomas Retreat! We had a wonderful time in Bukit Lawang and the jungle. Our guide Agill was great and gave us an unforgettable time in the jungle. Above all, the food in the Jungle was incredibly good! The jungle chef Dani cooked delicious vegetarian food for us! After our jungle tour we were able to relax in Thomas Retreat :) The food is also recommended here! Plus, the people here are very cool! All in all we had an incredible time, thank you!

I had a wonderful week in Bukit Lawang, and a significant part of that was thanks to Thomas and his entire team at "Thomas Retreat."The restaurant offers a wide variety of dishes. The more expensive rooms are particularly well-equipped and comfortable. The outdoor area and garden are well-maintained. Prices are fair and reasonable.Thomas is an experienced host and an expert on the national park. He takes care of his guests with warmth, hospitality, and a wealth of information. Whatever I needed or wanted, he organized it. For example, he arranged a night walk with a snake specialist! Naturally, he also assists with further travel planning and is a walking encyclopedia when it comes to bus schedules, routes, or local specialities.The jungle trek is unforgettable, as is the multi-course meal prepared by the cook in the middle of the rainforest by a picturesque river. Thomas also gives his guests the opportunity to experience village life, whether it's a traditional wedding or the weekly market day.What I disliked: There is no water dispenser to refill bottles. So guests have to buy plastic bottles and we all know...I definitely hope to be back some day.

A great accommodation to stay in Bukit Lawang. You can book Jungle or other tours directly with Thomas, the owner of this place. He is a very accommodating guy as well as the other guides and hotel staff. He makes things possible. There is also a good restaurant at the place. The 2-day jungle tour we made with Thomas was great.To my European tourist friends, there is no need to book tours with the European owned big companies months in advance. Come to Bukit Lawang, book your tours here (no pre-bookings needed) and as such support the locals, the region and people that eventually protect the jungle.

We stayed at Thomas's and did a trek in the jungle. I liked the welcome from Thomas’ teams. In the jungle, Lilik and Arnold accompanied us very well and respected our pace. At the hotel, Thomas's wife cooks really well and Thomas listens very well.

Don’t book here if you can avoid it. The rooms are average and the AC barely works and water in bathroom was cold. We had booked a jungle trip with another company (after much research about ethical jungle tours) and the manager sent me multiple aggressive voice notes asking why I hadn’t booked with him and kept calling me - this made me very uncomfortable and wished we could have stayed elsewhere, there are other much more welcoming and clean options in the village for less money.

I really liked the jungle tour with Agil and Pandi. They are great guides. It is a really impressive experience to see the Orang Utans|with them. Also the food was really good. The river rafting is a perfect way to end the hiking. I highly recommend Agil and Pandi. They have an amazing knowledge of the jungle’s Fauna&Flora. Katharina

We booked a 2-day djungel trip with Thomas and can only highly recommend it. It was an amazing experience! We managed to see quite a lot of wild animals really close thanks to our great tour guides (Agil and Pandi). They really know what they’re talking about and were also extremely motivated to show us everything. Thanks again!We discovered Thomas Retreat watching a documentary about Sumatra on Google (watch here if interested (in German) https://youtu.be/rZOOMFg7rww?feature=shared). We really didn’t get disappointed!So if you’re planning on going to Bukit Lawang and want to support a local business then you should go and stay with Thomas and his team! :)

Thank you so much! We had a great time!Thomas is really nice, speeks english fluently and organized everything for us (airport pickup, jungle tour, luggage storage). The Guesthouse is really comfortable and clean.We did a 2 day 1 night jungle trekking tour with Dino and Hikal and it was great! Both were so nice and caring. The food was amazing. Dino told us everything about all the animals and nature and of course we saw Orang Utans. Also he was always funny!Highly recommend !!!

DO NOT BOOK HERE!We booked the family room for three nights, but for the first two nights, we had no hot water. Additionally, the air conditioning barely worked on the first night. When the power went out, the backup generator eventually kicked in, but it made an enormous amount of noise right next to our room. We could also smell the exhaust fumes from the generator inside the room.The room had two showers, but one of them wasn’t even connected (see photo). The food was not only terrible, but also very expensive. There were four of us, and three ended up with food poisoning.There were also two couches in the room that reeked of sweat. The only positive aspect of our stay was the jungle tour. It was very enjoyable and well-organized. Our guide, Dion, was very friendly, spoke good English, and we saw a lot of monkeys.Conclusion: Do not book here!

Absolute thumbs up and highly recommended!🤩We booked via WhatsApp and everything worked perfectly. We were picked up at the airport and were able to immerse ourselves straight into the world of Sumatra. After 4 hours (with a break) we reached Bukit Lawang via small villages. We were warmly welcomed.Our absolute highlight was the 3-day jungle trekking. We had an unforgettable time with our guide Dino. He took great care of us, finding the best ways to discover the wide variety of wildlife. Thanks to him we were able to see orangutans, other monkeys, a wild peacock, a snake, a firefly, turtles and extraordinary birds! 🥹In addition to the animals and the delicious food, the final rafting tour was another highlight!So go to Thomas and dive into the jungle world with Dino.🥰The price-performance ratio is great.

Not good place . All sort of problems in the room which is not well maintain .no electric cattle and shower has cold water and Aircon is blocked and leaking water inside the room
