Friendly host family who are very attentive and flexible. For example, we were able to check in at 6 a.m. and check out at 6 p.m. At dinner we were always asked about our wishes. You pay comparatively more for this than in other accommodations. For two days we had a guide named John, a very nice man with good contacts to get to traditional ceremonies and immerse ourselves in the culture. Beyond the ceremony, however, in my opinion most of the things can be done on your own by scooter.

Accommodation with exorbitant prices for the service they offer. The worst food after having stayed in several homestays during our two-week trip through Sulawesi. The service was also quite bad (when we arrived there was no one to greet us and to help us call a taxi or rent a motorbike, we had to wait for hours there because it takes 1 hour to walk to the center of Rantepao; they served us breakfast an hour late and we arrived late to the funeral that we had planned to go to with the guide; there was no soap in the bottles in the room, nor was there any water coming out of the sink). Having a farm, the smell where they serve the food is quite unpleasant. We also had to tell them to stop burning trash right in front of our room. We asked the owner if she could call a taxi to drop us off at the bus stop when we left (6 minutes driving) and she charged us 100,000rp which, after traveling a lot through Indonesia and Sulawesi, we know is an absolutely exorbitant price . I don't understand the good reviews of this place and I don't recommend it at all.

Friendly homestay in the middle of the Tongkonan, the magnificent traditional houses of Tana Toraja. I had booked for 4 nights and extended for 2 more nights. I really liked the location, outside the town of Rantepao, next to the rice fields. The single room is simple and the bed is comfortable (it is wider than a traditional single bed). Everything is as shown in the photos. There is hot water and wifi works very well throughout the homestay. The owner is adorable and for me the strong point of this accommodation is really her kitchen. The breakfasts and dinners are really very, very good. If you are sensitive to noise, take earplugs, as the rooms have openings for ventilation with only mosquito nets above the glass doors. So you will hear the roosters and people from neighboring rooms sometimes very very early in the morning. I booked by writing directly to the owner on WhatsApp.

We absolutely 100% recommend staying at Rura Raya! We have had a wonderful stay here, just outside Rantepao (4km). It was great to stay outside the bustling city and be able to relax in the nature surroundings and sounds. Rooms are clean, cosy and have amazing views. Every morning a delicious breakfast was served, you can arrange a guided tour through Toraya in the homestay. 10/10 would come back.

Amazing place with great views, quite far from the center but this is advantage :) peaceful area, clean rooms, balcony, great bathroom, comfortable bed. Breakfast with eggs is small but good. I think it's too pricey, but in low season it's ok.

I would highly recommend this homestay to anyone looking for accommodation in Toraja. Part of a large family home, it still feels private enough. The house is situated on a hill and has it's own set of traditional tongkonan set in the grounds around the house. It's quite special! The room was very nice, clean and comfortable with an en-suite shower and toilet. There is also a balcony on two sides of the room, which has a stunning view and guest area encompassing a large terrace for us to eat, away from the family that lives there. The host is absolutely lovely and even ran a couple of errands for us to the local pharmacy. She cooked lovely food, brought it up to us promptly at the agreed times and always gave us a choice of what to eat which we agreed at the end of the previous meal (e.g. breakfast was agreed the night before). You can also arrange a guide and driver through her.
