We stayed 5 days in October in Maratua Guesthouse. We can definitely recommend you the place if you are looking for an authentic alternative to foreign resorts that mushroomed on Maratua. The bungalows at the seaside are very comfortable and clean, each has air conditioning. The food is great and owners are lovely people who can share with you a lot of insightful information about what to see and do in Maratua. We recommend to start with the house reef which is amazing, with plenty of colourful fish, turtles and coral. Thank you Ana and June for making our stay so memorable! Incredible place. Very sweet owners and helpful to organize excursions. Beautiful rooms with incredible views. Perfect location for snorkeling. Much more quiet than Derawan island. Delicious fresh curry and coco food with fresh vegetables.

We both lived and worked in Indonesia as dive Instructor for a couple of years and yes this is one of the best places where we ever stayed in this country. Very well organised ,no wishes open...very good accomodation and food. Amazing friendly people thanks to Anna and June you are great .They do offer as well diving and of course this is done in a perfect way .Wish to give 10 stars if possible. They can as well organise very reliable transfer from and to the island.

The rooms are clean and well designed. The view from the restaurant is stunning- magnificent sunsets and turtles at high tide. And, most important, Jun and Anna do much more than can be expected. They really care and do everything for you. Anna's cooking is great. I had a magnificent time and recommend the guesthouse without any reservation.

Lovely owners, nice rooms with sea view, good food, fresh fruit and turtles right in front - what more could you ask for? We really enjoyed our time at Maratua Guesthouse. If you can, book directly with Jun, the owner. Booking through their agent caused us problems with the speedboat pick up (we had to find someone to take us to the guesthouse because we did not get picked up as planned) and the price (she charged us more than the official rate agreed with the owners). So do ask for the official room rates when you are there to make sure you did not pay too much.Jun is helpful in organizing trips around Maratua as well. Kakaban is not worth it because the jellyfish are gone! But our trip to Sangalaki was awesome, we snorkeled with manta rays there. Ask specifically for the mantas and they will time your tour with the tides for the best chances to see them. Jun told us it's not the season to see mantas, but do insist. The boatman knows when and where to find them.

I stayed here for a week in august 2023 with my family and everything was perfect. The rooms were good and had air conditioning, the hosts were very helpful and the food was amazing! Snorkeling was great straight down the resort’s steps (beware of the current though), possibly even the best snorkeling on the island. I’d say a week is about the right amount of time to spend in Maratua as it’s such a small island. We had a great time, thank you.
