Beautiful to look at, nightmare to live in.I rented this villa for 2 months and had a horrific experience:§ The water supply was unreliable, stopping unpredictably for 2.5 weeks. The manager was not always available to fix the problem.§ The kitchen was infested by ants. They swarmed over everything, making cooking extremely unpleasant. As shown in the photo, leaving a chopping board for a minute meant it would be taken over by ants. Cooking utensils would be covered with ants before washing up could start. All pots and pans, crockery and cutlery had to be re-washed before use.§ After 6 weeks, the ant infestation culminated in the entire kitchen and dining area having innumerable lines of ants and all dry ingredients being attacked. The photo shows ants getting inside bottles with lids. The floor below the kitchen shelves turned out to be a breeding ground with hundreds of ant eggs and a nest for 2 inch egg laying ants. It was akin to a Hitchcock film.§ The kitchen was also visited by rats. Over a period of 2 weeks, there was rat “pooh” strewn across the kitchen floor every morning, forcing me to walk around it while making my morning tea.§ The manager was extraordinarily disrespectful and constantly entered the villa, using his key, with no warning at all. My complaints were consistently ignored. This became a hugely distressing issue when he entered the garden on two different occasions while I was in the bathroom – a glass room in full view of the garden.§ The upstairs bathroom leaked water from the shower, leading to flooding of the living room space below and constantly staining the sofa. The photo shows the stains on the living room ceiling.§ The dining room leaked so much water from the rains that water collected under the dining table and mushrooms grew from the tiles. Photos attached. Similarly the downstairs toilet leaked from the ceiling as well as from the flush.§ The downstairs shower pipe burst spewing boiling hot water over me and flooding the dining room area.§ There was haphazard attention to cleaning the swimming pool, especially during the first 2 weeks when the pool floor was covered by a layer of leaves.§ Garden maintenance was irregular with large broken branches going unnoticed and un-cleared for 2 weeks.§ There were innumerable ongoing issues that caused discomfort and inconvenience particularly because they were never attended to in a timely manner. There was a constant need for chasing. E.g. broken toilet seat, broken shower fitting, lights in main bedroom, bathroom and kitchen + 8 lights in annexe not working, one hob not working, DVD not working, air conditioner not working, broken furniture legs, leaking annexe kitchen sink etc.§ Overall, the manager did as little work as possible and had no sense for customer service. The day I arrived there was no one to meet me at 3am, though I had had several reassurances that I would be met. By contrast, the maid went out of her way to be kind and helpful. The owner was kept constantly informed of the issues but did not seem to grasp the gravity of the situation and could not control her manager. After a build up of issues and constant violation of privacy by the manager, I sought financial compensation but the owner adamantly refused. It appears that the owner is keen to sell the property and therefore does not see the need to invest in maintenance or service.
