My recent experience at Villa Kala in Ubud left me with mixed feelings and several notable disappointments. While the staff was courteous and friendly, there were several issues that overshadowed any positive aspects of our stay.First and foremost, Villa Kala seemed to be overrun by ants. These persistent insects disrupted almost every meal and made dining a challenging experience. Despite our best efforts to keep food sealed and surfaces clean, they remained a constant presence, making it difficult to enjoy our meals in peace. The problems didn't stop there. The doors to our rooms did not close fully, which not only compromised our privacy but also raised security concerns. Additionally, the water pressure was unreliable, and there was limited hot water. This resulted in some members of our group having to endure cold showers or even forgo them altogether for the last two nights of our stay. Some of us opted to shower at a nearby spa, which was an added inconvenience and expense. The laundry service offered by Villa Kala was far from satisfactory. We sent our laundry to be done, but it was returned to us very damp, bordering on still wet. This left us with damp clothes and a lingering musty odor, which was far from the fresh laundry experience we had expected. One of the most significant drawbacks of Villa Kala is its accessibility—or lack thereof. The villa is not easily reachable, and during our stay, we got stuck at least once. It was a frustrating experience, and we came close to having to walk back to the villa in the dead of night, which was not only inconvenient but also potentially unsafe. The air conditioners in the villa left much to be desired. They were ineffective and struggled to cool the rooms adequately, making it uncomfortable to sleep in the heat. Furthermore, the beds were not up to standard; they felt more suitable for children than for adults, and a good night's sleep was hard to come by.In conclusion, while Villa Kala in Ubud may have its merits, including friendly staff, it falls short in several critical areas that significantly impact the overall guest experience. The ant problem, issues with room doors, water supply, laundry service, accessibility, and subpar air conditioning and bedding make it challenging to recommend this place to others. Villa Kala feels more like a glorified clubhouse with running water than a comfortable and enjoyable accommodation option. My roommate and I had a great view of the garbage in the back due to a missing partition.*In my web searches of Villa Kala, they characterized it as a luxurious place to stay and this is very much NOT THE CASE!Maybe they meat against the Indonesian standards but either way it's not true. If you are looking for luxury, look elsewhere. *Stick with the hotels!
