The place is at the end of an alley, in a nice garden, so there's less traffic noise, and the staff was helpful and hardworking.But this felt like a Smokers Hotel, with toxic cigarette smoke seeping into my room since the doors have large gaps along the sides, ceiling to floor, when closed.It was terrible to wake up to the odor of second hand smoke filling the room, and not being able to open the balcony doors due to the smokers being outside.I felt trapped, and desperate for air. At breakfast, there were smokers daily, making it inescapable.I was really looking forward to using the balcony, but sadly couldn't, because of smokers at the pool and on the balconies, constantly. The smoke traveling to the balcony is really strong.I now understand how non smokers get lung cancer from second hand smoke.Overall it's clean here, except the under bedding smells like the body odor of other people, and housekeeping said the pillows and mattress pad are not washed, only the sheets, yikes.Unfortunately these issues made it impossible to feel comfortable or safe. I ended up leaving early and moved to another hotel, where I could breathe freely, sigh.

We felt very welcome at Kubu Cempaka when we arrived in the evening. The room was opposite the breakfast terrace and was as expected (the only negative thing was the mildew or even mold next to the air conditioning).They organized a shuttle for us in advance that was waiting at the airport; it worked absolutely safely and well.In the morning, breakfast options awaited us, from pancakes and French toast to mie noodles and avocado toast, eggs or bowls. Everyone helped themselves to coffee or tea and a freshly squeezed juice of their choice. A perfect start.The pool was nice, the surroundings in a quiet side street were absolutely worth their weight in gold and the walk to the beach was 15-20 minutes. Maintenance and restaurant within walking distance.The staff was always very attentive and friendly. Great people.
