Location: not the best but it’s up on the mountain which is quiet and sereneRoom: hotel is old in general but definitely consider as clean and well maintained. The room is ok for a night and is spacious enough. The toilet is very low which makes changing clothes a bit hard. My hands keep banging onto the ceiling. The mattress is quite soft and wobbly. The pillow is firm though if anyone is interested to know.Parking: quite a few lots despite its peak season. So no problem about it.Breakfast: 7/10 selection which is good enough for us.Overall: good for a night stay. We didn’t try the onsen this time as we thought the hotel is so old. Value for money especially if hit peak season like us.

My family and I rented two rooms for 4 adults and a baby. The first rooms that we checked into had old, stained carpets. In my room, the sink by the toilet was stained from use (not that big of a deal) and the toilet seat felt like it was coming off the toilet. The vanity in the bath area was clean, and the bath itself seemed updated. However, the tile in the vanity area looked like it had blood spots from where a woman had had her period and they just didn't wipe it up. I used a wet tissue to check if it was stained or dirty, and it came up with little effort meaning it just hadn't been cleaned. In the second room, the floor was similar and the vanity area next to the bath also had some blood colored spots. Beds in both rooms seemed clean enough, the cushions in the tatami area were old and worn with stains, and the fabric on the western chairs seemed to be coming up.I couldn't deal with the blood spots, so I requested to change rooms or for them to come clean both rooms. They were able to find two rooms and said I could look at one of them first. I went to check the first room and it was like walking into a different hotel. Updated everything - pretty blue floors, nice shower, big TV, clean bedding and floors everywhere. I immediately agreed and we moved our things. I gave the key of the room I'd checked to two of the adults in my group and my husband, baby, and I went into the second room. The second room looked great at first glance until we saw that it hadn't been properly cleaned in some time. There were about half-a-dozen large (about 2-3cm each) spiders hanging out by the ceiling in various corners (the room I checked didn't have this issue). The spiders started to move once we entered the room, so my husband took care of them. We don't like hurting spiders, but it was just too much... spent the rest of the trip being worried about disturbing the curtains lest more spiders appear. There were numerous webs around the room that we requested be cleaned while we were out the second day. Thankfully, they did a proper clean of the room after that and we could even walk around without slippers the second day!The breakfast buffet was alright. Decent bread, standard spread.Private baths were disappointing, but I guess alright. Not as nice as we expected. Public baths were the same. Could use some cleaning and updating but overall, standard old hotel I guess.Would have been happy with everything if we hadn't paid 25000yen per person for two nights. If it was half the price then the clean room with the blue floors and no spiders would have been worth it since it is located near Hakone. Given the room change, lack of cleaning, and spiders, very disappointed. Would not recommend.

Very good hotel. Price is good. The room was good but the downsides were:1- some stains2- toilet bidet not working properlyRestaurant needs to be reserved in advance, even if there is space available. This was the biggest downside especially with the hotel being far from any convenience store.Best bit was the private onsens, 4 available and didn't have to wait to try it, it was a great experience.Overall a great hotel if you're looking for a hotel near lake Ashinoko for a good price

A pretty old hotel but it has everything and the Japanese breakfast that came with the hotel stay was pretty good. I particularly liked the different flavoured bread. I had a slice each berry and green tea toast and they tasted like berries and green tea. It has a pretty good location with bus stop right outside that allowed me to go around hakone and there’s a bus that directly come and goes to Shinjuku station in Tokyo. The price is pretty good too. But there was a deep fog the day I went so it made it feel a little spooky.

We are perfectly happy with our stay at Kagetsuen, and highly recommend this hotel! I will just mention some of the highlights: nicely sized and very comfortable room, cleaned daily and even too much as they insist on changing bed linen daily, which is completely unnecessary; private mineral baths for which we never had to wait or make a reservation; very good breakfast with many choices; kind staff; exceptional cleanliness; 1 minute walk from the bus stop, but we walk to museums and villages as well; and finally, a spectacular view of Mt. Fuji!True, the hotel is not very new but the furniture and design from a few decades ago give it a nostalgic feel. Where else in the world do you have a dial phone from which you can make international calls and call other rooms? 😃 As I said, everything is functional, and we enjoyed our stay very much, thank you!The only thing is that Japan is still operating under covid rules, so there are multiple precautions you encounter nowhere else any more, but the hotel cannot decide on this alone, as most Japanese people wear masks even when they walk outside.
