A long-established inn overlooking the beach. Although the building is noticeably dilapidated, the rooms have been thoroughly renovated and were comfortable. Enjoy a blissful moment while soaking in your room's open-air bath while looking out at Tatado Beach, which is crowded with surfers, and the endless Pacific Ocean. At night, you can clearly see the starry sky and it is magical. This is a valuable inn that still offers in-room meals, which has decreased noticeably recently. The employees are not only very friendly, but when we pass each other in the aisle, they stop and give us the best salute. The service is so thorough that it makes me feel humbled. The open-air bath modeled after a yacht reminds me of the days when group travel was at its peak.

Fantastic hotel, with great public onsen. You can hire a private onsen, which we did and it was lovely. Great staff. The views from our balcony overlooking the sea were incredible.

A ryokan in Shimoda, Izu. The beach is right in front of you and can be reached within 1 minute walk. The inn also has outdoor showers, making it perfect for surfers and beachgoers. When I went there this time, the sea was packed with surfers. After checking in, sweets will be served to you at the window with a great view of the beach. The “Aihatsu” sweets served here are so delicious! The tea is also very good and makes me want to call it Shizuoka. The room is Japanese style and very spacious. Being able to look down on the vast ocean in front of you will lift your spirits. Men and women take turns in the baths in the morning and evening. One bath overlooks the ocean and has a beach-inspired interior, while the other has a Japanese-style interior, but if you climb the stairs outside, you'll find an open-air bath overlooking the vast ocean. Personally, I liked the one with the open-air bath. Taking a bath while looking at the sea while feeling the sea breeze is one of the best words. The meals are made with Shimoda's seafood and mountain produce. The sashimi is also very delicious with oil on it. The boiled pork and boiled red sea bream were delicious. We enjoyed drinking Shimoda's local sake, Reimei and Garyubai.Impeccable. If you want to fully enjoy the hotel while enjoying the sea of Izu, please come!

The views from the rooms are unparalleled. This room has an open-air bath and a deck, so you can relax and enjoy the scenery. You can choose between the room and the restaurant for the food, but the restaurant with a nice view, great customer service, and seafood barbecue were very good.

It was the worst stay ever.I lived in Shimoda for a year and I love it, but I don't want to go to Yamatokan anymore.G (a cockroach) appears at the dinner venue, and even though it makes it difficult to enjoy the meal, I return to my room and find a G (a cockroach) of a size I've never seen before on the curtains. It may be unavoidable that insects will appear due to the location, but I never thought that G would appear. And the response was again lacking in service spirit, and the process ended without a word of apology. I think it's normal for them to change rooms.I have stayed at over 100 hotels in Japan and around the world, but this is the first time I have seen G at a hotel. And twice. The charcoal-grilled dinner had stuck to the grill and was burnt, so there was nothing to eat, and I felt like the lobster and fish were wasted.Even when checking out, there was no apology or anything about G's issue.Really disappointing even though the location is good. The facility is showing its age, and I think there is a need for information exchange and service education among staff.I cannot recommend it.

Shimoda Yamatokan’s staff is what makes this ryokan so special. We came during a very busy Japanese holiday weekend and despite it being so busy (considered to be the last summer weekend), they were incredibly attentive and considerate. The dinner was the best dinner we have ever had while staying at a ryokan. The food didn’t stop coming and everything was so good! We tried many new things such as lobster sashimi and a local specialty fish (alfonsino). The next day, we initially thought we wouldn’t be able to eat breakfast as they start serving it at 8am and we had to depart for snorkeling at 8:10am. They very kindly let us come in a bit before and had breakfast already laid out for us when we came. The extra 5 minutes allowed us enough time to eat before a strenous activity. We really appreciate them and hope to be back soon.
