After all the exciting weeks in the big cities, staying in this ryokan was just the thing. After the 1.5 hour bus ride from Takayama City over the very picturesque landscape, we arrived directly opposite the entrance. We were warmly welcomed with matcha tea and shown everything. There are two outdoor and two indoor onsen that can be used privately. Ideal for tattoos. Since we were there out of season, we were even able to swim during the day and evening. With the fresh mountain air you can sleep incredibly well after such a wellness program. The food was very tasty and more than enough. We stayed two nights and chose traditional Japanese food, which was typical of the region. Water and tea were available and accessible at all times. Snacks could also be purchased. The room was a dream! Very spacious and really charming. You have everything you need, from enough towels to enough traditional robes. The view of the mountains opposite is also very beautiful and you can relax well. The service was excellent, you just felt comfortable and didn't notice anything.I would come back, so I recommend it to everyone! Big thanks for the great days.

Property is located near the famed shinhotage rope way and a transit bus away from kamikochi. The ryokan is charming and better maintained than expected. Rooms were particularly spacious and has good separation between sleeping area, shower n toilet. We particularly enjoyed the privacy on the asset with just 9 guests rooms. Onsens were great and all private onsens with 4 onsens rooms readily available and good for couples or tourists with tattoos. Didn’t get the dinner option with the stay. Hostess was really nice and helpful, generally a very fussfree check in.

We had the most relaxing overnight stay, and enjoyed walking through the valley along the river, seeing the spectacular scenery. Hakuunsou is a beautiful ryokan, very clean and stately. The outdoor private onsen's were perfect to recharge and relax. The lady who ran the hotel was delightful and kind. We also had one of the best dinners we've had in Japan!

As a Ryokan, it is wonderful. The rooms are very spacious and the futons surprisingly comfortable. Plus everything smells incredibly good and makes you feel very peaceful. And in our case everything was very very clean. There is a very relaxing silence. It has 4 private bathrooms, two exterior and two interior, so there will always be one free, but the two exterior ones are beautiful. Bathing at midnight there is a dream. The food is delicious too. And then there's the girl who runs the place... She's the sweetest person we've ever met. Sweet and kind, she treated us wonderfully throughout our stay. Furthermore, he is one of those people that you don't see but are there attentive to make sure you don't miss anything. Thanks to her the site is a wonderful place. I can only recommend this site a thousand times. I'm sure I'll come back. Furthermore, the environment, in the middle of a natural park, has no rival, although it is a little far to get there, it is worth it.

Very beautiful and peaceful place to try authentic Japanese onsen. You’ll have private onsen which is good for people with tattoos. Food is great especially the hida beef. Thank you Tao for looking after us. Very friendly and kind staff.

This hotel looked so good on the photos, but unfortunately in the reality it clearly needs a renovation or at least a proper cleaning. The rooms are dirty, spider web everywhere, dead insects inside the lamp above futons, burns from cigarettes on the walls, dirty windows, smelly toilet. The toilet also was malfunctioning and produced some noises, so we were given a screwdriver and explained how to stop the water flowing for the night. For 250€ a night, really?!Only the bathroom was clean. The onsen with a waterfall was very beautiful, but I wish it would be a bit more clean too. It’s a real shame, that the hotel is in such poor condition because it has everything to be a real gem.The food was also a disappointment. Smallest portions and worst taste we got during our travels through hot springs in Japan. After dinner we went to our room to eat some crisps and snacks we bought in supermarket earlier, because the dinner clearly wasn’t enough. The only advantage of this hotel is the woman who works there. She was always nice and helpful.Maybe, if this hotel was 2 times cheaper, I wouldn’t complain so much, but it costs exactly the same as really good hotels in the other villages in the same area, like literally 30-40 min drive from there.
