This Ryokan is located in a valley, amidst tall mountains. It is easily reached by car from Matsumoto or Takayama. Upon arrival we were greeted by the owner, Naomi, who explained everything in English. The room was simple but beautiful and very spacious. In our case, we chose one with ensuite bathroom but no shower because the rest were taken. However, you can take a shower after a bath in the public indoor onsen, so we didn't end up missing the shower. Both the indoor and outdoor onsen are beautiful, although the outdoor one is clearly the winner with all the trees around the bath. The atmosphere while you soak in onsen water is so soothing and relaxing.Regarding the food, the dinner was amazing. We added the Hida beef sirloin to the standard menu and I'd totally recommend doing so if you love meat. The breakfast was great too, although we're not used to this type of traditional Japanese food (especially first thing in the morning) so some of it we tried but ended up leaving. The staff was 10/10, extremely attentive and lovely. If you're after the full Ryokan experience, search no more. Visit this Ryokan and let it wash away your worries and probably the walking sores of your trip too.Thank you Naomi and the rest of the staff!

Although the hotel has its shortcomings, it deserves full marks from me.The employees are very friendly, and you can feel that even for foreign tourists, their smiles are genuine kindness rather than service. The hotel is a small hotel, but the facilities are well maintained and the environment is clean. It maintains the flavor of ancient Japanese architecture, but it does not feel old, achieving a balance between the two.Luggage has a designated place in the room and cannot be slid or placed on the tatami. Although it may feel strange, it reflects that the hotel has certain requirements for equipment maintenance, which is reassuring. The hot springs also reflect the hotel's requirements for equipment maintenance. They are clean, bright and very comfortable, making you reluctant to leave. The hot spring water can also be drank directly. However, the catering is a shortcoming of the hotel. It is relatively ordinary and does not meet my standard requirements for banquet cuisine. The sophistication and taste are slightly lacking. In addition, there are no shower facilities in the outdoor hot springs. You need to shower indoors before getting dressed to go to the outdoor hot springs, which is quite inconvenient.Summary: Thanks to the hotel and staff for bringing me wonderful memories during this trip to Kamikochi.

Magokuro was simply fantastic. We had a tough day hiking and raced to check in by 5:30pm so we didn't miss dinner. Mei helped us up to our room and thoroughly explained the grounds of the Onsen. After washing off the trail we went down for dinner. This was without a doubt the best meal I have had in over a year of living in Japan. The staff were helpful and attentive, the food was beyond delicious, and the traditional Japanese ambiance helped bring everything together. Can't recommend dinner enough, I feel the Michelin guide needs to take a look at this place. After dinner we went to take the waters. The Onsens are beautiful, clean, and relaxing. Some that are very hot and others that are cooler. The rooms are beautiful and also very clean with all the amenities you need. Breakfast in the morning was equally as deliWe are sad we had to leave and can't wait to return.Thank you Mei for making this experience very special for us.

From Gaoshan to Fudi (H41) 1800Y, go directly to the station and get off. Note that not all trains stop. Check the timetable and ring the bell on the bus in advance to ask the driver to stop.

Incredible place. The owners take care of every detail and are extremely kind. Both the rooms and the onsen are amazing, the most beautiful I have encountered in Japanese ryokans. I am grateful to the owners for offering this experience.

I used it when I traveled with my wife in April. It was a really nice inn where I could spend time with my wife quietly, surrounded by nothing but nature. The Japanese-Western style room had a chic atmosphere and was clean, and the food was delicious. The Hida beef shabu-shabu for dinner is especially special. Even river fish, which I don't like, had no odor and was delicious. The baths are divided into an indoor bath with washing facilities and a large outdoor bath, and I was able to get there at a time when there were fewer people, so it was also special. I went for a little swim (lol)For me, 35,000 yen/person was a steep price, but it was more than enough for the inn. This is one of the inns I would like to stay at again.

It was a wonderful stayThere was a detailed explanation of the hot springs at the reception, which was the purpose of my stay, so I was happy. The room was between clouds, but there was a space to lie down by the window, so I was able to open the window and relax while enjoying the cool breeze. It was very good. The hot springs have lukewarm water indoors, so I thought it was a good idea. My hometown is Hatage Onsen in Shizuoka, so relaxing in the warm water was irresistible.Needless to say, I enjoyed the outdoor bath, and it felt good to bathe my flushed body in the open air in the garden. The starry sky at night is beautiful, so I highly recommend going out at night as well.Dinner was perfect for drinkers, with all the side dishes that served as sake accompaniments. The Hida beef shabu-shabu was also so thick that it almost melted.I had a very relaxing day.

The room was clean and very nice.It has a shower and the water pressure is great! It's a room you'll want to stay in again. The open-air hot spring bath is the best. However, because the water was cloudy, I couldn't see the stones and it hit my shin and it swelled. Please be careful. If the private open-air bath or indoor bath is empty, you can use it for free, so it's great for the whole family.
