The glossy rice cooked in the oven, the meat and vegetables cooked in the hearth, and the sardines were all exquisite! Not only was the taste and aroma of the food amazing, but it was also a wonderful inn where children could experience the culture of the stove and hearth. The owner was very friendly and attentive, and we had a great time!

The skewers I had at the hearth a few years ago were so delicious that I hesitated, but this time I ordered the sukiyaki.Sukiyaki on a hearth takes longer than on a cassette stove, but perhaps because the meat cooks slowly, it didn't get hard even though it was fully cooked, so it was soft and delicious. Many local cuisines in each region include soups, such as dango soup and noppei soup, so perhaps this is a menu that gives you a taste of the hearth. We enjoyed the Kamado rice and the Goemon bath, and were able to relax and feel the life of the past.

It is an old style house, so as long as you aren't expecting Western/modern comforts, it's fantastic! My daughter called it the Totoro house. You will sleep on Japanese futons that you lay out on the tatami mats - if you've never slept on a futon it might feel uncomfortable/hard compared to Western beds. You will eat sitting on the tatami mats, but there are a couple of small Western chairs if sitting on the floor is difficut. The bathroom is Japanese style with the toilet in one section, the sink/vanity in a second section and the shower with separate furo (deep bathtub for soaking after washing in the shower) in the third section. It was not the most modern but all clean and more spacious than the Western hotel bathrooms we had other parts of Japan! There is a TV, wifi worked great and a bluetooth speaker to play music. There aren't a lot of "tourist" attractions nearby but it you want serenity this hits the spot - a few steps away has you walking among farming fields and the house is also close to the forest with a little stream running along side the road making for a peaceful but easy walk up the mountain. The gohan (rice) cooked in the old style stove was the best we ate our entire trip! Wish we had bought some of the local rice. It can get a little smoky when dinner is being cooked but my mild asthma was fine. The host, Hiro, is amazing, super accomodating and friendly, he introduced us to his shiba inu (dog) and his duck, and even though we didn't ask ahead, he prepped for us to make tofu - this experience was an extra fee but totally worth it! During the winter you can also request mochitsuki (pounding rice into mochi) and summer/fall you can make noodles (can't remember if he said soba, ramen or udon). Hiro's English is limited, but he's so engaging, we asked him to eat dinner with us and my daughter loved that...he has such good energy!

Wonderful opportunity to stay in an authentic antique farmhouse (150 years old?). The lovely host, Ahiru, has been restoring it beautifully in the old-style himself while fully updating the modern amenities (bathroom and kitchen). Tatami floors throughout, all very clean and in great condition. Ahiru made us dinner; rice cooked on a traditional wood stove, with soup and skewers grilled over a traditional firepit in the center of the large common space. Also provided is a fulfilling homemade japanese breakfast. The location is a small, quiet farming village at the foot of the mountains near Biwa Lake, only about 5 minutes by car to the lakeshore and nearby towns with shops and things.

I always use it with my family ♪ It's a wonderful place where you can feel the slow flow of time in nature, and you'll want to go again and again. The kids love the Tatei House♪ There is fun to be had in every season, so when should we go next? I get excited just thinking about it. Thank you as always. We look forward to serving you again in the summer!

I was able to have a valuable experience with my children of how people lived in the past. I think it's a good thing to step away from YouTube and games. it was very fun! It happened to be cold on the day we visited, but I've been talking with my kids about wanting to come again in a different season.

Takashima Town is close to Kyoto and is my favorite place. I enjoy camping, playing in the water, skiing, touring, etc. This was our first family trip in a while, and we stayed at Taraichi House.A comfortable old folk house in a relaxing and quiet environment. I felt the kindness and thoughtfulness of the manager in many ways, such as the cute paper towels prepared, and the beans being prepared so that you could drink delicious coffee. The attic, where you can feel close to the magnificent beams, is like a Japanese-style Heidi's room, and I felt like I could just lie down and fall asleep. After taking the Goemon bath, it was a great time to sit around the hearth and enjoy a drink while watching the crackling bonfire.Cherry blossom season, firefly season, and summer would also be great. An old folk house inn that you'll want to visit again. I am grateful to the friendly and kind manager, the charming Shiba Inu Chachamaru, and the charming Ahiru-san for meeting me. thank you very much.

We stayed with 9 family members. We were able to experience things that we would not normally be able to experience, such as a wood-burning stove and an irori hearth, allowing us to enjoy a relaxing time for both mind and body in a different space. Also, when I had to eat at Kamado on short notice, they greeted me with a smile, and I was able to eat a very delicious meal!Next time I will visit you in a different season.
