First of all, the location is great.Located within a 5-minute walk from Hakone Yumoto Station, once you've checked in, you'll be in a great location for exploring the surrounding hot spring town and eating out.If you go by car, you will have to walk through a slightly narrow road to reach the inn.The interior was recently renovated and was very clean.In the guest room, two of the four hangers were left broken, and the bathroom door window was left with a crack, so I was concerned about the small details.Although the common bath is not very large, it has a good view and the temperature is just right so I felt comfortable.The open-air bath in the guest room was also clean and comfortable.However, please be careful not to get too close to the fence as there is a possibility that it will be seen by people playing in the river or walking along the riverbank.The problem is the staff.When checking in, the front desk explained the dinner venue, but it turned out that it was on a different floor. (Our server noticed this before we went and told us about it.)Most of the important dinner items had already been lined up in the private room and I was starting to get thirsty, and the wait staff turned on the stove without permission for the hot pot dishes.I guess they couldn't leave the sashimi out, but I thought it was something that would normally be served in the order of the menu, so I pointed it out about 30 minutes later, and they said, ``I'll bring it to you now.'' After another 15 minutes, he finally came out.They didn't bring any of the other menu items until I confirmed with them, "They haven't been served yet, right?"Of course, there was no explanation of the dishes at all.For breakfast the next day, when I arrived at the appointed time, the grilled fish stove had already been turned on by itself, and then the fire had gone out.The fish was cold and the miso soup was lukewarm.Well, I wasn't expecting that (or in a sense, I was expecting it), but as I was about to start eating, he asked, "Can I clean up the futon in the room now?"We had nearly three hours until check-out, and the best part of our job was to take a bath after breakfast and take a nap, so we said, ``That's a problem,'' and they replied, ``Well, I'll leave you one futon.'' That's what I was told. Do you want to get up that quickly? ? That's what I thought, but when I saw the waiter happily walking around the hot spring area in front of the station with ice cream stuffed in his mouth after checking out, I laughed in many ways.Given that this is an inn with good rooms, bathrooms, and a good location, I felt very disappointed in the quality of the staff, and felt that there were many more satisfying inns that didn't have to pay this much.I think it's expensive even at half price. Of course there are no repeats.We hope this will be helpful when choosing your accommodation.

I stayed in an annex building with a single room.I don't know if it was because it was a north-facing room, but as soon as I walked in, there was a musty smell in the bathroom, and there was a musty smell in the bathroom. On the outside, the bathroom looked clean with no signs of use, but upon closer inspection, I noticed tiny oil droplets on the surfaces of all the fixtures, including the sink, toilet, and bathtub. I don't know what to say, but there were countless small liquid particles condensing. I should say that these were not water droplets left after washing, but rather formed over a long period of time. Since most people used the public bath, it seemed like the bathroom was not cleaned at all. Although it was a chilly day, I felt like I was suffocating from the smell, so I slept with the window open. I made a reservation because it was cheap, but I thought a lot all night long and learned many lessons(?) from it.

Riokan type rooms. Traditional dinner and breakfast in the room with private service. Quality food. Well located, very close to the train station. High price but the experience is worth it. Very rigid with schedules. We arrived late for dinner, because the buses arrived full and there was a huge traffic jam and they gave us almost no time to even shower. We also couldn't use the onsen for this reason. Something similar happened with breakfast, they force you to arrive at a certain time and that makes the experience a little stressful when it should have been the opposite.

Stayed for one night. I chose this because I could stay in the hot springs until check-out time.Although I arrived late at night, I was very satisfied with the hot spring bath.The river is right next to you, so you can sleep while listening to the sound of running water.

Great location. Expensive, but it was worth it, at least for 1 night. Unique dinner and breakfast (right portions, many small plates, you won't arrive at the end of the meal hungry). Very nice onsen.

very beautiful, traditional ryokan with private onsens in the room. in the evening, they will come and prepare the bed for you as during the day the room serves as a seating area and the mattresses are stored away. the breakfast was also a really nice experience. it was really relaxing and the location and the staff is amazing too!

I stayed in the annex. The room looks like a small business hotel. Apparently this bath is not a hot spring, but I was able to use the large public bath in the main building.Even though I stayed for several nights, I was able to get my towels changed.I am grateful that I was able to stay in Hakone at a reasonable price.

It was nice to be able to see the river clearly from the window and feel the nature.There was also a smoking area on the 1st floor.The food was delicious and I was able to get a second helping of rice.Ms. Nakai was a new, talkative, middle-aged woman who cared about the children in many ways and was very responsive.However, the male staff I passed by did not say hello, was unfriendly, and didn't seem very pleasant, so I thought it was a mixed bag.The information sheet said that you could play table tennis, butWhen I asked the front desk, they said it wasn't possible.That was disappointing.Personally, I was able to take a bath in the open-air bath, which was very pleasant.

This is the worst inn ever.I stayed here a few years ago, and it was by far the worst ryokan I've ever stayed at.I was served by a waitress who was probably suffering from dementia, and when I ordered a beer with my meal, she yelled at me, saying things like, ``Why didn't you buy it outside?'' and ``There's no such service.'' Also, when I was making sukiyaki, I was stirring eggs, but the waiter started stirring with his fingers still dipped in the eggs, so I thought I couldn't do this anymore, so I called the owner. It seems that this is not the first time a complaint has been made against this Nakai, and I received a mysterious candy fold. It was the worst because it was my birthday.

I don’t think it worth the price I paid (more than 50,000 jpy per night) for such a small/normal room, compared to the one I have been in Kyoto ( less expensive but 3 times bigger and very authentic traditional Japanese style). Not sure if the hotels in this area are all expensive or just this one is not as great as the price should be.Food is good, but no service to me, because they just prepared it and closed the door and let us to eat. No introduction no communication, again, the one in Kyoto was wayyyy better in terms of service, they will greeting you when you show up, explain the idea of the food, ask if you need anything, any questions, etc. I think maybe in general the hotels in Kyoto are better than here?

Stayed: 16-17/06/2024We have our own hot tub on the balcony. The view is so nice. Although the water in the river is running so noisy, room glass doors soundproof is excellent, better than Australia apartments 😆 Staff are very friendly and helpful. Staff that i met are 5x - 6x yo, they work and move so fast, very efficient!The hotel is a bit old, weird smell in the corridor but not in the room. Quite pricy, spent AUD874 for 1 night. Found a big spider net in balcony fence. And the fence gap is too big for young kids. There's a chance of falling off. Wifi is fair. the general message is fine but not for photos uploading.

We really liked our stay here; the food and the service were amazing. I see some reviews regarding commenting the rooms: I found the rooms great! Spotless clean and we loved the old syle, we felt like we were in ancient Japan. The food was amazing! We are travelling with our 2 year old kid, and a toddler can be difficult to handle but the staff was very attentive and kind towards her and gave her great food (the breakfast in the picture) and a special chair. Also we had a private onsen session and the place was really charming. The place is reasonably priced compared to other places providing same experience.

Service was fair, staff kept pushing us to choose their preferred time for dinner.Room was good but getting old. Stains on the wall. We got the private bath room, however people can be seen taking picture of us over the river, especially when we are naked doing Japanese style spa. Not ideal at all, my wife screamed when she saw people walking and taking pictures of us.

Although it was a little expensive, I stayed in a plan that included an open-air bath in the room and dinner and breakfast. The open-air bath was so spacious and comfortable that even two people could fit in it! There were a lot of delicious dishes for dinner and breakfast, and I was satisfied and full. The staff were friendly and even brought us cold water when we asked for it.

After a jam packed itinerary from Tokyo to Osaka and back, this was the perfect pit stop to relax! The service was amazing despite the language barrier, traditional dinner and breakfast was provided and every dish was made with care and was hearty and delish!Rooms were small yet clean. There’s a private onsen on the balcony we specifically booked before hand and the view looking out was breathtaking and so relaxing!Location, value, cleanliness, food, comfort 10/10 Would definitely book here again next time I visit Japan!

We’ve stayed at several Ryoken/onsen hotels and this was by far the worst. Room was old, and not in a good way. Tatami mat bed was like laying on a cement floor. Our hostess was very eccentric and stress inducing due to the language barrier. Food was good with so much to eat. Short river waterfall outside was very loud. Onsen bath area was nice.
