This ryokan stay was a wonderful part of our Japan trip. It felt quite authentic from the moment we arrived. I was worried that the added dinner and breakfast wouldn't be enough food for our American appetites, but I was totally wrong! The dishes kept coming at dinner and we left very full. Plus, the food was beautifully presented and allowed us to try some Japanese dishes we otherwise wouldn't have ordered. The onsen was a very unique experience and I was grateful to have an option to enjoy it privately. I was also pleased that we were allowed to leave our luggage after checkout while we explored for the day.In general, we found Hakone a little more difficult to navigate than larger cities because everything is so spread out. The bus routes are numbered - get a map from the tourist office before you leave Odawara Station! Google Maps did not identify stops by the number and without knowing Japanese we would have been lost if it had not been for this map - see photo! The inn is not far from stop 248 along the blue T Togendai line from Odawara Station. It took about 45 minutes on that bus plus 5 minutes walking to arrive there.

We stayed here for 2 nights, and the private onsen was fantastic. You can book morning and evening upon checking in, each room gets a time slot. So relaxing. The rooms are traditional and comfortable, but otherwise encourage exploring, which was perfect for us. The service and staff was wonderful, and we were able to drop our bags off earlier than check-in, which was so helpful. Using Google translate was very useful and worked well. The breakfast was large and very tasty, definitely worth getting up early for. Nearby is a fantastic sushi restaurant, and it's only a short walk to other restaurants in the main part of town. I would stay here again, it is well worth the value for comparable places.

10“Amazing Private Onsen Experience”Finding the place was easy, it's quite close to a station (Daigatake), can ride a free bus (using hakone free pass). We arrived an hour past check-in time, but still managed to get a schedule slot for the onsen for the night (and because of the other reviews here, i tried my luck to ask for a morning slot before check out - which was granted, i'm guessing there aren't much people scheduled yet for the morning yet. There are 2 private onsens, tried both of them and they looked and functions the same. The landlady and the girl assisting her was very friendly, polite and accomodating. They could understand some english, which was very helpful! There aren't much restaurants and convenience store nearby so be sure to eat or buy everything you need before checking in (we didn't have dinner/bfast included so we had to buy somewhere else). The room was beautiful, and the bed was super comfortable. I definitely would want to come back here if i ever visit Hakone again, i'd recommend it to anyone who wants the authentic japanese culture experience!

Highly recommend if you’re an American looking to have your first Ryokan experience in a charming, clean, place without breaking the bank! This homey, modest Ryokan still boasted great service. You could tell the owners and staff took great pride in their business and the meals they prepared. It allowed us to experience the Ryokan/onsen culture without being overly worried about the customary etiquette or being yelled at for not understanding the rules. You could tell they were used to tourists here but it still felt authentic! We were given the traditional robes and shoes to wear but it was not forced upon us.The dinner and breakfast were so artfully prepared! I agree with another reviewer who called it “modestly extravagant.”The onsen was INCREDIBLE. Each room gets to reserve a 50-minute slot per day and it’s private to you and your partner. No getting naked with strangers.Highly recommend this experience!

The food was mediocre for what one would expect of kaiseki. It can look impressive, but the flavors were off. The sashimi was the worst, very tired fish. Bad cuts, bad prep. The food serving staff was okay, but awkward at times. Japanese staff abusing Chinese staff in front of us.The onsen was nice, very relaxing. The futon was 1 mattress only. The other ones I was at had 2 thick and always had extras in the room. Room was pretty large though. The bathroom was outside the climate controlled room, could be tough in winter, but I was not there then.If you do the horizontal mambo, the windows will shake, be aware. The okami-san did call a taxi for us which was nice.Bus station was about 5-7 minutes away. 30 minutes to anywhere.

The beds are hard! If you are used to western mattresses these make for a long night.Breakfast and dinner was great! So many flavors, textures and delights and the staff were very attentive. The private onsen was very basic. If I had come to Hakone and this was my only onsen experience I would be disappointed. I’d recommend also booking an additional onsen as this was pretty spartan.

For the price point of this place I can confidently say that this place was not exactly value-for-money. It was expensive for a place that felt more like an Inn instead of a Ryokan.1. The folks running this place are not Japanese and Taiwanese instead, so hospitality is not what you would expect.2. Meals were decent but could be better in terms of quality of food.3. The rooms were spacious and warm.4. I would pick somewhere else if I had the same budget and wanted a ryokan experience.

We had a wonderful time at this traditional style onsen! I had never stayed at a ryokan before and found this a great experience. We stayed one night during January in-between visiting Tokyo and Kyoto. It was easy to get there by highway bus. The staff were all incredibly helpful and friendly - thanks to all of them! When we were checking-in, there was a couple from Australia and a family from China so they definitely see guests from all over the world. This Ryokan has a very traditional “family run bed-and-breakfast” feel to it compared to some of the other ryokan in the area that seem to aim more for western spa. The rooms are fairly basic - but comfortable and clean. The real star of experience is the delicious breakfast and dinner as well as the relaxing onsen. The meals include assorted vegetables, fishes, and other small plates. Very delicious. One hour of private onsen access is included each day and features natural hot mineral spring waters, hot rinsing baths, and cold showers. If you are looking for private access to an onsen at a reasonable rate this is a great place to stay! I would definitely return.

Beautiful traditional hotel! Everyone is super friendly and helpful at the reception (both the lady and the man) and at dinner. The rooms are spacious and clean with all amenities needed. The dinner is outstanding, a variety of Japanese dishes of highest quality. The Onsen is exactly what you need after a long day out. Parking is right infront of the hotel. Come here!

We spent one night during our Japan round trip. It was such a great experience and we can really recommend the kaiseki dinner and breakfast! The private onsen can be reserved for 50 minutes (for free). Must do, when you're in Hakone!!
