Good for a few days but definitely had lots of room for improvement. Aki was a welcoming and chatty host who responded to our needs. However in our rooms there was dust in a lot of places - windows, many surfaces, and on accessories eg mirror, TV. Also there was too much light in the room in the morning as there’s no blackout blinds; so if you need darkness for good sleep then be prepared to bring a sleeping mask. Toilet and room size was adequate but the bedding was a bit dirty, and we expected a bit more cleaning and tidying from staff to maintain the comfort of our rooms for this price range (e.g. helping out with folding bedding). There was no AC when coming in from a very hot summer which made the building feel more stuffy inside than the outside. Overall a decent experience if you want to try tatami sleeping but definitely could be better!

Stayed at this Ryokan for four nights. It's in a quiet neighbourhood and close to Tofukuji station (10 min walk) which is handy for exploring Kyoto and Nara. Aki, who owns and runs the place, is very accommodating and helpful.

I wanted to experience traditional Japanese stay and this ryokan was perfect. It’s about 13-15 min walk from Kyoto Station and about 10 min walk from Sichijo Station. Love the incredible personal touch. …

It is a traditional house and it is cool to live the experience, the owner is very friendly. But the cleanliness of the accommodation leaves a lot to be desired, the bedspreads had stains, the bathroom, which is the toilet, was clean but the walls, the curtain, switches... Wow, the rest of the things were not clean. It's good to live the experience, but that's it...

This minimal Ryokan was a good start to enter the Japanese atmosphere. The host was very friendly and very helpful. He gave us excellent directions, including the Amazon Café which we will never forget because of the splendid breakfasts. All homemade!!

The establishment is good. The staff is very helpful, they accept shipment of suitcases and even leave them in your room so you don't have to carry them up when you arrive (there is no elevator because it is a traditional house). However, we found the bed linen quite dirty. In addition, there are no opaque windows or blinds and at dawn, the sun comes in from everywhere and you can't continue resting.
