We had a pleasant stay at Ohara Minshuku Onsen. Communication with them through Agoda was smooth, and the owner kindly replied with all the necessary information. We arrived early, and they allowed us to leave our luggage so we could explore Ohara. The exterior has a minimalist Japanese charm, and stepping inside, you can immediately feel the culture and history of the establishment. When we returned, our luggage had already been taken upstairs, and the staff—especially the thin, fair-skinned one—was very friendly, even showing us how to lay out the futon. The miso hotpot dinner was delicious, and my sister especially enjoyed the chicken, which had a special quality to it. They provided rice, miso, and side dishes, which we could help ourselves to. I also ordered sake on the younger staff’s recommendation, and it was excellent. Breakfast was simple, but the younger staff went out of their way to cook an omelette for us when they learned we didn’t eat raw eggs. The onsen itself was a highlight, and the signature Goemon bath set in nature was a luxurious experience—I had the privilege of enjoying it alone as I arrived early. They also provide lockers at the front for storing valuables if needed. Fortunately, we didn’t encounter any unpleasant experiences during our stay, but I do advise treading carefully when staying at Japanese ryokan facilities, as they often have specific rules. One minor issue was that no one informed us about the ryokan slippers provided at the entrance, so we walked barefoot for a while until we noticed other guests using them. Additionally, there was some black mold inside the male toilet bowl on the floor where I stayed, so they might want to check that more closely.Overall, it was a wonderful experience, and we would happily return again to this silent luxury.

I came to Ohara in search of Mr. Shibaku's Shibazuke. The room was normal, just like the concept of staying at grandma's house. It's been a long time since I stayed at a guesthouse. There is also a hot spring, which is rare in Kyoto, and the open-air kettle bath is recommended. The food was simple but delicious, and the breakfast menu was full of rice. Many of the staff members were kind, and it was heartwarming to see them cradling a small child in the large plaza of the dining area, which made me feel warm during the meal.Next time I would like to visit again during the autumn leaves season.

I had some business to do in Kyoto and it looked like I wouldn't be home until the evening, so I decided to stay in Ohara, a place I don't usually get to, and start walking around Ohara the next morning. Please call me when you arrive at the bus stop. They will pick you up at the taxi stand across the street from the bus stop. It's especially difficult to go there while dragging a heavy suitcase as it's all uphill. The location of the guesthouse itself is a very good location, about 3 minutes walk from Jakkoin Temple!By the time we arrived, it was already past 6pm, so it was already time for dinner.I had been working out a lot during the day and was sweating a lot, and since it was a hot spring, I thought I'd take a bath first to enjoy it, but I was surprised to find out that the genders had been swapped! ?There seem to be two baths, but on days when there are fewer guests, only one is operated and they are rotated. The most important thing, the rice, is very delicious as the inn prides itself on its miso. The chicken was also fluffy. When I returned to my room, the air conditioner that was supposed to be on was turned off for some reason...? Trembling at the prospect of a psychic phenomenon, I tried putting it back on, but the sound was so loud that I couldn't sleep. The old air conditioner is humming full of dust and mold. There was even a filter cleaning error...I wish they would maintain it properly.I only have a thick comforter for winter, so if I turn it off, it gets too hot and I can't sleep.Even with it on, I couldn't sleep and it was very painful. The futon itself was just the right firmness when I stacked the bottom two layers and made it into three layers. In the morning, I would like to take a bath before eating, but as usual, there is a rotation system, and the time for women is from 7:00 to 8:00, and the time for men is from 8:00 to 9:00. But breakfast starts at 8am...What a great setting (lol)I had no choice but to eat breakfast late and take a bath before going. However, the fish that is set from the beginning is cold, and the hot food is self-service, so even if there is a slight delay, the quality of the rice will not change.By the way, this inn is basically all self-service. That in itself is not a problem at all. It's a bit of a waste as the bath system is completely dependent on the accommodation. Even though you have a nice bath, you have to enjoy it. There was blood on the futon, so I'll make sure to wash it! Also, the electricity in the toilet stall was broken and wouldn't turn on, so I had to leave it open. Going to the toilet at night is scary! The strength of a minshuku is supposed to be a homely atmosphere, but here you can spend your time freely, for better or worse, without worrying about yourself. There were a lot of foreigners, or rather, about 90% of them were foreigners, so maybe that style is better these days.Oh, and don't forget that men don't have razors.

I used it as an accommodation for my university entrance exam a week ago.The employees were friendly and the atmosphere was very welcoming, so I had a stress-free and enjoyable stay! Not only is the rice very delicious and the refreshing taste of the ingredients matches the depth of the richness of the aged miso, you won't get tired of it, but the side dishes that aren't the main dishes also have wonderful nostalgic flavors that will make you rediscover the wonders of Japanese cuisine. It was a meal. The scenery was also very beautiful, and it was very refreshing to be able to feel the old history of Kyoto in the old-fashioned building along with nature. I heard that the autumn leaves are very beautiful during the fall season, so I would definitely like to visit there again. What impressed me most was the response from the employees. My period came at an inopportune time, and since it was so untimely and unplanned, I didn't have any menstrual products with me.When I asked the female staff member at the front desk if they sold any supplies, she said they did not. However, my father, who was staying with me, was too drunk to get out of the car, and since he was quite old at night, the mountain roads were pitch black and visibility was poor. I didn't have the courage to walk alone in a strange place, and I was at a loss. Then, the female staff member from earlier drove to the nearest convenience store and purchased some supplies. I never thought that someone would do something like that for me alone, and it was at a time when I was quite busy and under pressure, so I was so touched that I burst into tears after the staff member left the room. It's gone.I am truly grateful. I have thanked you many times, but you have helped me in a way that cannot be expressed in words. If I have a chance, I would definitely like to stay here again! ! I was really impressed! !

We were nine people from different countries, and none of us slept well because the bedding was so uncomfortable. The pillows are rock-hard. The rooms smell weird, and the shared bathrooms are tiny and uncomfortable.
