Very nice hosts and pretty central in Kyoto. However, you shouldn't expect a ryokan - unlike ryokan in the countryside, there is no old traditional atmosphere here. The rooms are in a traditional style with tatami, but that's it. Unfortunately, you can't relax here, so it's only worth a visit if you want to stay in a traditional room without having to drive long distances into the country.

Our stay in this hotel is the best experience we had during our stay in Japan. The room is traditional and very comfortable. The staff of the establishment are attentive, attentive to detail and are very welcoming. Thanks to Haru for his advice and warm welcome. We will come back with great pleasure.

This is a perfect place to stay! Everything was so clean and comfortable. The staff is extremely friendly and hospitable - even offering their recommendations of how we should spend our time in Kyoto. There is a lovely rooftop area to spend time in with a spectacular view of the city. Also a rooftop onsen available for guests. Close walking distance to many attractions. Cannot recommend this place enough!!

An absolutely outstanding place to stay. The location is one of the best in Kyoto, right between the Park Hyatt and famous historical streets and shrines. The room was clean and comfortable, and the staff were absolutely outstanding. …

Ideally located in old Kyoto, this traditional family inn is one of the best in Kyoto.Everyone there is friendly and listens to you.The view from the rooftop or the room is impressive. The private onsen with a view of Hokan-ji is an exceptional experience.Impossible not to recommend it.

Incredibly Friendly Staff in the Perfect Location with Tremendous Rooftop ViewWe spent four early June nights in Kyoto, and Kyo no Yado Sangen Ninensaka was our favorite place of the four we stayed in Japan. The view from the rooftop alone is worth staying here. Shuta and Haru were a highlight of our stay. They were both so friendly and helpful with restaurant recommendations and assisting with booking taxis. Shuta and Yoshi made us fantastic Japanese breakfasts, making our mornings truly delightful. This is the perfect spot to view the Yasaka Pagoda and enjoy peaceful walks in the early morning or around sunset after the crowds have left. One night around 8pm I even came upon a film crew shooting a scene there and they kindly let me pass through after a few minutes of waiting. The location is also ideal for visiting Kiyomizu-dera, which is just a 15-minute walk away. We loved visiting early in the morning before the crowds arrived.I had no idea how popular this area was and how conveniently close we would be—a mere 3-minute walk—from the historic Ninenzaka and Sannenzaka paths, filled with food and shopping options.Perfect spot and I couldn’t recommend it more.
