We stayed 9 nights in this Machiya. It was the ideal place to visit the surrounding areas such as Nara or Osaka for the day. A real Kyoto hostel. It is super well located for visiting Kyoto without having all the flow of tourists and workers. The decor and atmosphere of the place are great. In addition, the team is adorable and very welcoming. They even helped us make calls in Japanese to find our camera.

We had a great week at the Waraku-an guesthouse. The guesthouse itself is superb, an old house typical of Kyoto. The employees and the manager are very nice and helpful, and the manager helped me a lot with the whole reservation process. The value for money is unbeatable ! When I come back to Kyoto, I will go back to Waraku-an :)

You feel like you're in a movie - a really great gem with super-friendly service and a great authentic atmosphere - and extremely cheap - when we forgot something in the guesthouse when we left, the friendly people sent the things to the hotel after us. 5 stars are definitely not enough. Thank you for a great experience.

Beautiful accomodation! Less than 5 mins walk to convenience stores and 30 mins walk to shopping district. As the house is 100 over years old, the walls are very thin so you can actually hear your neighbours talking 🤭 Floors are creaky so you'll need to tip toe at night. Maybe this is how ninjas are so stealth! Amazing experience!

The best youth hostel I have ever experienced. The staff are lovely. The hostel is simply beautiful and the prices are really affordable. In addition, you can go and admire the cherry trees (Kamo River/Takase River and Kamo-gawa) on foot. I would come back.

An authentic and unforgettable experience awaits you in the heart of Kyoto in this century-old guesthouse.Whether it is the location, the equipment or the staff (who speak entirely English), you will be warmly welcomed into this cozy little nest, in which you can find a typical little garden which will accompany your breakfasts or your evenings.During your outings, you can choose to continue your adventures by bus, but I can only recommend walking which will allow you to cross many inspiring gardens and temples, and just as many contemporary buildings with varied and exotic architecture. .You will also have the opportunity to chat with other travelers, and why not make connections with strangers who will, by chance, become traveling companions. So of course the insulation of the place is not perfect, the door beams are a little low and the walls are thin...But you will experience a piece of Japanese History, and that is priceless.
